I'm considering a 4300dvd or 3300bt. If I use the iphone video cable will the navigation apps on my iphone be displayed on the HU? I already have a couple nav apps on my phone and don't want to pay for the overpriced pioneer add-on.

If anyone has either of these units, let me know what you think of it.

i dont own the models you speak of, but do have a 900bt. Fro what i know about the 3300bt you CAN NOT run a navi app from your phone on the unit. The only thing you can use off your phone are videos and music. Im not to familiar with the other unit tho.

actually.. read this. Maybe it can..

With App Mode selected, you can operate the unit's iPod function from your iPod. Also, you can listen to the sound of your iPod/iPhone applications through your car speakers and view any video content on the screen, provided the App supports analogue audio or video output.
App Mode is compatible with the following iPod models:

    • • iPhone 4 (software version 4.1 or later)
    • • iPhone 3GS (software version 3.0 or later)
    • • iPhone 3G (software version 3.0 or later)
    • • iPhone (software version 3.0 or later)
    • • iPod touch 3rd/2nd/1st generation (sottware version 3.0 or later)
    • • iPod nano 5th/4th/3rd/2nd generation (software version 3.0 or later)
    • • iPod classic 160 GB/120 GB (software version 3.0 or later)
App mode is not compatible with the following iPod models:

    • • iPod nano 1st generation
    • • iPod 5th generation

This is exactly what I want to do; watch the nav app on the HU screen like it's a movie on my iphone 4. I just want to find someone who has tried it before I spend the money on the HU. If it won't work my money would be better spent on another unit with built-in nav.

call around to different shops to see if they have the unit, and if they do go test. That is unless someone comes out and answers here.

Also, you can check out www.avic411.com for info maybe pertaining to your question.

Take a look at this video, hopefully i can embed it...

    <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SdvcG5uF8TI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In any case it looks like the nav can work. I have the 3300 BT but don't have an iphone. IMO, I'd rather just use one of the portable nav units as the glare off the screen makes it hard to see.

I would have to drive 2 hours to get to a shop so playing with one isn't an option. Trying to do my homework online.

According to the video it will do exactly what I want.

Thanks for the help. I never think to check youtube.

I've got the avh-p4400bh and just installed the parking brake bypass to run app mode while in motion this past weekend. So far I've played with Netflix, Hulu, and inMotion GPS .... and all work well. The app mode seems to play everything as though it is running a secondary screen. When running movies the movie only plays on the receiver and not on the phone. When running GPS it only shows the map on the receiver and all controls are on the phone. I'll play with it some more and try to write up more details on the experience. I would imagine the 4300 runs similar to the 4400? I'm really happy with how inMotion works with voice guided navigation through my speakers and the map on the screen. Next project is to hookup the rear view camera I bought. Fun...

I have the 4400 and have the same experience when using App Mode. The GPS app I've tried is "Motion X, GPS Drive". Keep in mind that you need to install the $10 parking break bypass. I happen to be using the proprietary Iphone interface cable you can by for the HU.

It's pretty amazing. If I have a WiFi connection, I can actually stream Netflix to my HU screen.

I recently installed the AVH-P3400BH and wanted the Nav, Netflix, YouTube capability. So searched around for the proprietary cable. You will find it runs 69.99. Didn't want an Amazon knockoff due to complaints (only about 20 to 30 dollars) because it was about 3 feet long and made in china. So I found the cheapest route. Walmart online sells the real one for 39.99 and it's only about a foot long. It's a Pioneer CD-Iu51V 0.5 m iPod-To-USB Cable . Works well with Motion X and your other apps. Beats buying the Nav add-on. Really like this app feature on the Receiver.
