Any road bikers?

Any road bikers? I am thinking about picking up a Specialized Allez, mostly to help with my mountain biking endurance.

 

its a great bike...pretty much anything from specialized is good...IMO. I ride a specialized tarmac pro. Picked it up to build up enduro for MTB also but i think that i ride it more than my mtn bike now.

 

You mean the kind you have to actually pedal around?

 

Yeah, otherwise I would have asked who rides a motorcycle... or who rides a dirt bike.

Not a fan of Specialized other than their innertubes. All their bikes are made in TaiWan.

 

specialized makes an excellent bike. most of their bikes ARENT made in taiwan.

its split between the USA and japan, with the cheap bikes for losers (the ones well under 1000$) made in taiwan.

that being said, i wouldnt buy one.

personally, im going with a surly crosscheck. but i like NOT having my ass hurt. and i dont care about weight or showing off my carbon fiber!

 

Name one made in USA?
Other than the REAL high end bikes like Serotta, Calfee, Seven etc which are made here in the US the only medium level brands are Trek and some Cannondales.
My friends son in law works for Specialized uper management and though I may be off with EVERYTHING being from TaiWan, they are not made here.

 

You don't know bikes do you. A grand won't even get an acceptable frame.
At least for serious riders.

i think i have good taste...i bought a tacoma after all...and a specialized.
but your right...the specialized road bike doesn't match my style...its not light enough for me and doesn't let me show off my carbon fiber enough...hahaha and i only bought it b/c it was the cheapest out of all the other comparable road bikes at my LBS. (i got a good deal. COST. about 1200 less than msrp. through the stanford racing team)
Personally, the carbon fiber saves my ass cuz i ride it 30 miles a day back and forth to work.

IMO bikes are like cars...you get what you pay for.

ALL specialized S-works bikes are made in the USA. with a few of the more high end bikes being built here to!

but the japanese make good stuff. i mean hell, you drive a toyota dont ya?

 

PS. most treks ARE made in taiwan. its a good factory though. but to mainstream a company for my taste.

Wrong. Only the lower end aluminum frames are. All the carbon frames are made in Wisconsin.
S-works are not made in the US. Maybe painted and assembled but not made here.
Just FYI Cervelo, a canadian company, has there carbon frames made in TaiWan along with Giant and Scott.

I've got a Felt F65 that I bought a few years ago, and I like it. It came with an aluminum frame with carbon seat stays, dura ace components, FSA compact carbon cranks, and american classic wheels. For what I paid for it, I think could have got a Specialized with Ultegra components that weighed 1lb more.

 

I know this thread is old I have a 2005 Allez. I don't know how much you weight. If it's anything over 175 the frame flexs alot out of the seat. I don't ride mine on the street anymore. It's my indoor bike now. Spend alittle more there are still good entry level road bikes out there for 1000.00.

 

One more thing don't listen to the high end guys what ever you buy take good care of it I.e. Regular tune-ups or find a good bike shop.
