285/70-17 With No Lift (Future Lift)

I blew a tire the other day so i'm goin ahead and pickin up a new set of BFG A/Ts, just trying to decide on a size. I have full intentions of putting Billies on, but for the moment its tires. If i put 285's on now, how bad will it be till i get the Billies? Or should i just stick with the 265's

Very bad. Major trimming required. Through your spare your on til you get the new struts

 

You will need wheel spacers and a 2.5" lift minimum. THEN you will have trim and possibly chop your cab mounts.

265-70-17 is all you can fit without trimming

 

where does the rubbing occur? like constant? or only at full turn? If i have to deal with being a little cautious for a month, that isn't a big deal

 

Without a lift I imagine it would rub plastic even on moderate turns.

And without wheel spacers the tires will constantly rub the ucas

 

Yeah my 265 70 17 rub my uca i cant imagine what 285's will do.

Just get 265/70/R17s if you are gonna get a new tire.. 285s require at least 2.5 of lift, new wheels with at least 4.5 BS or wheel spacers if you just wanna run stock wheels...

 

I say throw the spare on, buy the lift now, and then buy the new tires when you can afford them.

 

if the truck doesnt move or turn you will be fine

 

They are treadwrights, so they might be a little bit larger than the intended 265/70//17. I put them side to side with my 265/65/17 and they were significantly bigger. maybe in between 32's and 33's.

 

Im running 285/70/17 w/o any lifts atm. some trimming was required so now it only rubs on full turns which i only do when i reverse and U turns.

 

I have 2" wheel spacers and 1.5" lift, i want to run a Hankook Dynapro MT 285/70/17, do you think i will have some trouble?

if your stock wheel is 7 inch wide a 285 is not recommended.

 

You don't need any lift to run bigger tires all you need is a razor blade to cut some plastic and the right wheel offset(4in offset is perfect)...You may rub on the cab mount but all that needs is a cutoff wheel to trim where it rubs. It's only scary to cut parts off your truck the first time.

Take off the front mud flaps too or your tires will remove them for you.
