    Sometimes ya gotta scream

Took mine to the beach today--he's outta control crazy at the beach for the first few minutes. In all fairness, he's getting better at the whole off-leash thing :D

Tell me about it !!! This is my first Lab, although I understand the temperment of alot of breeds I forgot how Labs are very social animals & want to interact with anything that will reciprocate back, & they love to cruise, Kacy is 4 months now & I've still got a leash on her alot (actually its about 15ft flat braided nylon tether , very light but strong)

She's getting better with taking command but she has a trait that drives me batshit (a few Labs do ) Delayed response , tell her to "come" & she'll look at you like your an alien until she's ready to move on her own time scale ....:)

Get a training collar. Best $ I have spent on my lab. Use it and train daily. Your dog will do anything you teach them.

Vinny is getting big! even for a mini aussie:)

He cut his side on a trailer fender pretty bad about 2 weeks ago and had to get like 10 stitches:(. So now he has to wear a t shire everywhere. Here's some recent pics of him in our yard after irrigating.

Agree 100%. It's also safer for your dog so they don't just run out to the street...I have seen it before a dog just takes off and the outcome is not good.

Both Dina and Fender have E-collars. I have also trained my Min Pin. It is well worth the investment. A good one is pricey but just think the dog will be with you 12 to 14 years. I like tri-tronics and Dogtra. They are in the high end but they last. I have had them for 3 years without issues.

I'm not a huge fan of collars. Once you start working with them, you will almost always need to keep either the real collar or the dummy on the dog to achieve that level of control. Plus, a dead battery will ruin your day.

Not saying they don't work because many have had great luck with them and perhaps in some circumstance, they are the better choice.

My preference is to work from a short leash to a longer one and then move off-leash.

Which every method works at least you are training your dog.

I work all aspects so I'm safe. The e-collar is like insurance. I train Police K9 and it just makes me laugh every time I am at a park or beach and people can't recall their dogs or just how untrained 90% of the dogs are out there. And I always make sure my batteries are fresh when training. Also in Ringsport which I train the dogs have no collar except for the heeling on leash.

Most people don't realize the effort that's required for a well trained dog.
I too spent several years training Police K9's as well (though it's been some time). I'll be the first to admit I don't spend enough time working mine. His recall is good and the basic commands are there and that is all I ask of him plus, he's damn good with his nose--trying to work on that some more.

lure coursing. usually greyhounds and other site hounds are the norm, but it's amazing how fast any dog moves when it wants to catch the bags.
