Hos much are 4x4 conversions?

i have a prerunner and i was just curious a 4wd conversion is?

 

roughly 1000 depending on what kinda deals you get for parts

 

A shit load i am sure, $5K+ Better off trading the truck in for a 4x4

 

Every time this question comes up , the general concensus is that it is possible but in most instances you are further ahead to trade your truck for a 4x4

the guys on ttora have itemized lists of parts and are usually around 1k maybe 1500 if they buy alot of brand new replacement parts like cv axles and things like that

 

The process couldn't be any easier. You simply visit the dealer of your choice and trade it in for a 4x4. It probably can be done inside of 3 hours.

 

There are a couple known findable threads of guys who've done it on 1st gens.

I haven't heard of anyone having done a 2nd gen though.

I stand by my original statement that it's not worth it if you're paying shop labor rates to have someone else do it. If you're handy and have access to parts (at wrecking yard/used prices, not new prices!) and have a couple weekends to throw at it - have at.

 

Only do this if you quite literally NEVER intend to get rid of it. Once you do it, your options on a private party sale will be greatly limited and the ability to trade the vehicle later will be completely gone.

The OP has a 2nd gen .

There are 1st gen and 2nd gen guys weighing in on this , the guys that say it is $1500 in parts , is that for a 2nd gen ?

 

Once you do something like that, you have to keep it or find the right buyer who will appreciate the work-

Every one gives different prices. I wanna see a part list break down of this...not the sas...im sure if using used parts you could do it for under $2500

 

You could try to find a junkyard with a 4x4 and try to get the parts you need for 2-3 grand, or find a wrecked 4x4 at an insurance auction. the auction way you will at least know you have all the parts you will need, but for a 2nd gen you're talking A LOT of work to make it close to a stock setup. If you're thinking about a shop doing the work you're better off trading it in as it will cost more than the trade in.

 

Not sure of the price but myTaco is a 4x4 and never use it. I may need to find out what is required to remove my front drive parts so I could sell it.

'Round this time next year I plan on beginning my research/acquiring of parts for a 4x4 conversion with an FJ t-case.

Not selling my truck. I've had it since it had 28K on it, I know the history, and I have it fully paid off. I can convert it to 4x4 buying the parts with cash over time and doing it myself.

 

If your looking for a factory front axle I think buying a new truck would be better. But maybe your looking to get a solid front axle. That would be cool!
