Serious about getting an AR

So I want to get an AR. I am interested in some decent brands. I will probably shoot every weekend to a minimum of once a month. I know I want it chambered in 5.56/223. I am not a hunter, but may get into it in the future. I have looked at Colts, Daniel Deffense, Bushmaster, and Sig Sauer 516. I think my mind is made up on the DD for 1,200 at a local dealer. Please point me in the right direction.

 

DD is a good brand. What are the specs on it? You can also build your own and have one exactly how you want it for under $1200 depending on what goodies you wan to put on it. Im building one now and gave about $400 in it and all I need to get is a barrel, fore end and bolt carrier group.

 

Bravo company is also a high end Ar maker. Gimme them a look.

 

Look at DD and SIG. They really do give you an awesome rifle for the money. Also, they have great customer service, should something happen. Everyone has a Bushmaster- get something unique.

 

Just an FYI, 5.56 is not equal to .223

subtle difference in the way the casing is made and how the pressure is measured (rating for the upper receiver). As a general rule of thumb, you can shoot .223 safely from a receiver made to 5.56 specs but not the other way around. 5.56, the milirary spec produces much higher pressure than the typical .223 receiver is designed to withstand.

There is a crap load to learn.
With my little bit of learnin the Colt and DD are well respected units and get the 5.56 chambering.
Lot's more things to consider such as twist in the barrel ( I am going with 1 in 7 on a Bravo Co. upper )

Take your time and read as much as you can about these horrible rifles

 

Rock River Arms is my favorite, great quality!

 

Just going to get my plug in for LWRCi. If you can afford it, you won't regret it. Also if you must have a DI gun then check out rock river arms entry tactical. Lots of rifle for the money.

 

You could save a couple of hundred bucks and get a Double Star M-4 in the mid 600$ range. That and a case of ammo and a s**t ton of mags for sub 1000$ The only down side is that the top rail dosnt have a rear sight but a quality flip up rear sight can be picked up for minimal$

double star is a decent "beginner" gun. From my past experience I go with the "buy once, cry once" motto. This Poor man cant afford to buy cheap stuff twice.

If you want a quality gun, look at:
Bravo company
DD
LMT
LWRC
Noveske
Larue.

If you just want a gun that you can pick up at your local big box sporting good store check out smith and wesson or ruger. They make decent AR's.

 

I got a Colt and I love mine!!

 

Also would recommend checking out the new(ish) Ruger SR556. Heard great things about it, and they're reasonably priced. I do love Sig's though, just shot a 556 the other day, and the 516 is supposed to be pretty tough also.

Not sure why you feel the need to spend $1200 when a high quality piece can be had for a lot less.

what do plan to use the rifle for? close range, long range, 100 yard max?

if you want a red dot Aimpoint and EoTech are Very good brands.

nikon and leupold both make ar15 scopes that compensate for yardage for the .223/5.56 round.
