These Civilizations were around for thousands of years.
I don't think we fully understand our past.

I just finished watching the first season of this on Netflix Instant. Episode 1 and episode 5 were the most interesting. The other episodes were entertaining, but in my opinion consisted of a lot of conjecture put forth by people without impressive credentials.

Episode 1 looked at a lot of the ancient structures and carvings, and consulted machinists what engineers about how easily that could be done today. Basically ancient folk did some extremely sophisticated work back then. However, I don't consider our not knowing how they accomplished it to be an automatic argument for visiting aliens. I think one could just as well argue that God/gods did it, or time travelers, or magma men from the center of the earth.

Episode 5 was enjoyable because it it looks at things we are actually doing today to search for intelligent life out in the universe. E.g: SETI, the Voyager probes, the Kepler telescope, etc. It also consults some folks with better credentials (a professor at MIT with a PHD for instance) whose input I found more respectable because they took care to phrase their opinions and beliefs as just that instead of any type of scientific fact.

Another interesting series that is more skeptical is Is It Real? also available on netflix instant.

When I was a kid, and I was taken to church every sunday by my mother. The first time the priest said "We are all created in gods image" I stood up and asked, "Does that mean he's bored all the time too? did he just create us for his own entertainment?"

Mother was NOT happy with me.....

    Is a good point....

I was force fed by my grandmother church and her religion it makes me not want to follow that religion but then it does if that makes sense. I feel if I dont im betraying my faith. I feel if I do, Im just doing it because thats what was forced upon me.

I was taken to church every sunday from birth till i was probably 17ish, I have my own relationship with our higher power. I'm cool with it, I see no need to go spend my time in a building every week.

But I do believe the basic teachings of religion regarding love and kindness to those around you definitely shapped me into the happy go lucky guy I am today.

I went to roman catholic school from K-12, IMO organized religion is BS. There is some good messages (ie: do unto others as you would have them do unto you, etc.), but you don't need to sit in a pew every Sunday to be a good person. The latest rapture prediction is just another example of a church figurehead using his position for personal financial gain, as religious leaders have done throughout their history.

    back on topic...
yes, I believe there is life in some form outside of our galaxy, the universe is too big for us to be the only life forms in it. They're developement could be 10,000 years ahead of ours or 5,000,000 years behind, who knows.
