EOTech or Aimpoint

Im looking to get something new for my AR-15. Should I go EOTech or Aimpoint?

looks at the specs on each and make your desicion. do you want a single dot or do you want the circle with a dot in the middle?

 

Depends on your money and uses. Not a lot of cash and mostly doing short shooting(0-300 yards)? EOTech. Got more cash to spend on a sight and you might (You don't have to but some have variable zoom) be shooting some long distance? Aimpoint.


My money went to an EOTech, and it's just fine for what I need it for, but if I had more cash I would have gotten an Aimpoint. I would've liked the choice to zoom a little, plus being able to operate a sighting system without batteries is a plus.

 

you can always add a 3x magnifier to either the eotech or aimpoint

 

True, but that takes more moolah.

Also, I'm on crack. I've said Aimpoint but was thinking Trijicon. I'm a dumb ass.

for the price of an aimpoint you can get an eotech and a magnifier.

 

I have the EOTech, one from the new line with the transverse battery compartment, raised base and throw lever. Had an older AA model, sold it off and bought a new CR123 model. 600 hours on a single battery. Still can't touch the battery life of new Aimpoints but the reticle is a million times easier to pick up quickly. I never can find the little aimpoint dot.

 

EOTechs are much better products. Their glass is much more resistant to scratches as well.

 

I say Trijicon!

 

Thanks everyone for helping me out. Id love to get a Trijicon but I can't see myself spending that much money! Sounds like im going to go for an EOTech unless I can afford a Trijicon. How much better is the Trijicon than EOTechs? And what are the differences in the different versions of EOTechs other than batteries?

 

Lots better, and that's from a guy who likes EOTechs. For 50 yds and out, I don't see how you can beat a trijicon. From 50 yds and in, the fixed magnification can be a hamper to target acquisition. A huge plus for the trijicon is no batteries needed ever, and the human eye picks up greens much better than reds, so the green chevron or horseshoe reticles are faaaast.

 

There's slight variations between models- theres ones with NV/infrared compatible reticle modes and civilian no-frills red dots. Different models also come in different sizes- from really short/compact ones for PDWs and SBRs to normal full length ones for carbines.

I run a 552. Don't really need a zoom for hunting/home defense, and I love it! Also, with Eotechs you can co-witness by using both your irons as well as the 10 moa dot..just in case.

Hardly. During a two day carbine class in the pouring down rain (it was in Seattle after all), the ONLY sights that took a dump and quit working were EOTechs (30 shooters, 3 with EOTechs, 2 died. 67% failure rate.) The Aimpoints all worked 100%, even the one that was smashed on the concrete a few times as a demonstration (M4). Even my C-More Tactical ran 100%.

If a customers asks me for an opinion on a red dot, I tell them choose an Aimpoint (Comp ML2, Comp M4, Micro T1, whatever) and be done. But if they have to have an EOTech, I'll order one in for them.

I agree with most commenters. I have used all three, speding most of my time behind an aimpoint. Of the 3 I like aimpoint the least. It is a great product and miuch of it is preference but for fast aquisition I gotta go with eotech for CQB. As was already stated Trijicons are awesome for distances outside CQB but certainly not Bad at closer ranges by any means.

If price is a concern at all your answer of the three is simple.

 

IMO EOTech is more versatile than Aimpoint. The common EOTech reticle has a 65MOA circle with 1 MOA aiming dot, so you can use the circle at close range and the dot for longer distances.

Although if most of your engagement is done at longer distances, you'll probably want magnification, where a Tijicon is lighter and more compact than EOTech + magnifier.

 

Aimpoint Comp M4 of I had to choose between the two.

 

For what it's worth my EOTech was out of warranty and I had an problem with it, L3 was awesome about fixing the problem at no charge.

Because of that experience and I would not hesitate buy again.

 

I almost choked to death on my chicken nugget.
