One thing we always insisted on in my motorcycle group rides was that everyone be gassed up and ready to go first thing on the day of the ride by the scheduled departure time. That means anyone who camped over, should fill their trucks the night before, and everyone arriving should fill their trucks just before they get there. That would help prevent everyone from getting split up. In a group that big, it's too difficult to keep track of everyone. The last thing you want to do when you're ready to go is wait around another 30 minutes while people go and fill up.

Also, with rider abilities being different (we didn't ride side-by-side as the bikes were more sport oriented), another rule of the road was no one gets left behind. Since fast riders love to go fast, they went first with slower riders in the back (nothing is more frustrating to a fast rider than being stuck behind a slow leader). The condition is it's everyone's job to note the vehicle driving behind them. When you come to a turn off, it's each individual's job to wait until they can see the truck behind them. If you can see him, you keep going. If the guy behind you can't see the truck behind him, he stops at the turnoff and waits until he can, etc. It'll spread the trucks out but everyone will know where to turn. It allows the faster drivers to blast away while ensuring that everyone eventually makes it to the same place. That way everyone gets to ride their own ride. Slower riders didn't have to push beyond their comfort level for fear of getting lost.

We also designated one experienced person as the sweeper. It was his/her job to bring up the rear, no matter how slow the slowest person was. We alternated that job so one person didn't share the whole burden. The sweeper should also be someone who has a radio, in the case of an emergency.

Good points. I got up at five and drove all the way there and made it on time. We left at 9 which meant if you got left behind then you should of made a bigger effort to get to the ranger station on time. I think of the meet as a success. Cant wait for the next one. :burnrubber:

its a good thing that the boulder was as big as it was. It stayed low to the ground.. otherwise i think it would have gone thru your windshield if it was smaller.. lol

It would only hurt a little! Did you end up going around that drop? Or did you go down it, too?
