Okay, I will save you the long story but someone threw what seemed like a brick or huge rock and it hit my windshield dead on the 60 freeway in riverside. Didn't come through, but as you can see it is trashed. After fighting with USAA and their BS Safelite referral which I chose not to go through, I got them to pay for 1168K for OEM that the glassdoctor in Murrieta will be installing this Friday.

We got it all setup, but now the dealer they are getting the glass from (Toyota Lake Elsinore or Temecula) says the part number changed from 56101-04020 to 04021. I called Crown in Ontario and confirmed the same thing. The estimate went higher now to 1600K if I go with the new part and no one can seem to tell me the difference not even the guy I spoke to at the parts counter. He said they just change the part numbers and up the price you can still use the old part.

So I am going with the older part number, but what worries me is that in 09 + they added the camera and that the mount might be different on the glass. Can anyone who has access to 05-08 and 09+ confirm if its true or not before I run with this Friday?

    Thanks!

Just a heads up, if you fought with your insurance company and forced them into paying over a thousand dollars for a $300 windshield I would be shopping around for auto insurance because they will likely drop you when your renewal is due.

I appreciate the heads up, I hope they dont drop me, but I want what I pay for. I am willing to work with them but OEM is OEM, not like or similar in quality, it will be OEM. If my car was older I would consider something of like quality. The truck is like new, in the garage 99% of the time with only 12,000 mi on it. Safelite did me wrong last time on another job that was supposed to go with OEM quality, they ended up putting in Cheap chinese made stuff in my other car, gave up on the fight with them after a few weeks. I got stuck in the end with a wavy crappy windshield. I dont make the prices.

I agree its overpriced by a long shot, but OEM is OEM, it saved my ass from the brick coming through I know that much. I have a great driving record and I pay extra for no deductible on all 3 of my cars, I want good stuff, not whatever the Ins company tells me I can get, if they want to cancel me for that, it wont be the first time, just ask Geico.
