Most tents are a little 'cozy'. My Kelty is a 2person but I don't see how you would get 2 people in there without constantly running into one another!

Yeah you basically need to buy a tent that fits one more person than you will have sleeping in there. never really understood that. I definitely don't like being shoulder to shoulder with someone else.... even if its another girl! Especially if they toss and turn all night

I used to be this way -- especially since I'm a big guy.

But then I realized that every extra "man" that you carry tent-wise adds another pound or so of weight -- or another $100 if you go high-end. So I started carrying a 2-man for me and the GF.

Of course, this theory is bunk now that I am going to start taking my dog on trips. She needs to sleep with us, too! Looks like I'm getting a 3-man...

yeah that is why I have hammocks. I hate carrying the extra weight. That way, like on this trip I am about to go on, the other person carries their own sleeping arrangements.
That is what I was thinking about with the Solitaire. I got in it and crawled out probably 10 times. Not having my gear in there or at least easy access to it broke the deal.

My step dad has this REI dome tent that is great. It is probably 20 years old I would say but its a 2 man but because it is circular, there is room on the outsides for gear.

That is the tent. I have not idea what the model is other than REI. For 20 years old the thing is in great shape. It could probably use a good sealing and waterproofing but it was leak free on that trip I took in the pic.

Nice! I kinda miss the old true "dome" tents.

I have one that I use for car camping. It's a Coleman, and all the poles are connected to a central "hub" on the top of the dome, and have a hinge in the middle to fold up. The whole thing collapses upon itself and rolls up.

I can set it up myself in about 2 minutes, and in about a minute with someone else. It's basically the same design as the one in your photo.

Sumbitch weighs 8 pounds, though -- so it does not go backpacking.

It was raining that whole weekend. I mean buckets of rain. I like to set up a tarp just so if it rains, you can get out of the tent and at least sit and chill under the tarp. it worked pretty nice to keep the fire wood dry too.
My dad had one of those. heavy as hell! I think his ended up with a huge hole down a seam that was impossible to repair.

I was just looking at that on REI as compared to the REI Arete. Half the weight! Nice choice.

My tent is in the garage drying after a heavy dose of waterproofing spray...Toy is not happy about being kicked out of his garage for the evening though.

 What spray do you use? I coated my stuff with that Camp Dry. Not true waterproofing but it does the job for a couple of long weekend camps with rain.

I got a different brand this time...the last stuff I used (can't remember the name) didn't hold up very well AND it came in a trigger style squirt bottle so by the time I got done spraying my entire tent my hands were killing me! So I opted for an aerosol type this time out :)

The stuff I have now is Atsko/Sno Seal brand Water Guard Extreme...its water, UV and mildew protectant in one. Only time will tell if its any good.
