Roaring noise from front end on 05' DC 4x4 Taco

Last week I noticed a roaring noise in my wife's 2005 4x4 DC taco. I have had new tires and alignment done. No slack in front front tires. Any Ideas of what might be causing this would be appreciated. It starts a winding type of roar when starting from a complete stop and gets louder as you increase speed until hwy noise takes over. It can only be heard inside the cab. Strange......Thanks for any info available......

 

Sounds like wheel bearings. Dunno....

 

My toy came with enkei rims that were on it new on the lot....could these have anything to do with a bad wheel bearing? I suspected the bearings, but then someone told me that it could be the cv..

 

make sure your lugnuts are all tight. Could be CV as well. Does it change if you put it in 4WD?

 

I've been dealing with this a bit on my Civic. Thought it was wheel bearings but it ended up being two lug nuts backed out and I was missing the spacers that go in.

1. Check your lugs.
2. See if your Enkeis have the spacers that go in the inside of the wheel hub like my civic. Mine wouldn't mount properly without them.
3. Grab the tire/wheel and shake it in and out (not sure if this is what you meant by no slack)
4. Jack it up, spin the wheel freely. If it rumbles and you can feel it, its more than likely the wheel bearing.
5. If not wheel bearings, the last thing that spins is the CV axle, but I don't believe thats your source.


How does it sound going around corners? CV's are prominent 'clicks'. Bearings are a 'rumble'. Most of this can be easily diagnosed at a slow speed. CV's you'll feel more on an acceleration, bearings more so on a deceleration.


My $.10, I'd troubleshoot in that order. Or you can always just take it in on warranty.


EDIT: I overlooked that you said you have new tires. This was my same scenario on the Civic. My tires just plainly roar, they're Proxes, and they're everybit as loud as my truck tires with are 33" KM2s! If you don't feel anything like I'm describing in here, its probably just the tires.

 

I have ruled out the cv due to no clicking, and the noise stays when locked in to four wheel drive as to unlocking it. This noise was present with other treads, so I changed tires. I will be changing the wheel bearings this week. Thanks for the replies.

i am having the same prob on my 2005 tacoma. the roaring does not change tones at all i just put new tires on and it did not fix it. did the wheel bearings fix the prob?

 

I vote wheel bearing.

 

So.. Any resolve on this? Was it the bearing? I am having the rumble now and feel thats what I am going to need.
