been searching for awhile but could not find an answer to this. i got my truck cleaned for the first time in over a year, and now i get noises, what gives. i don't think it is anything major, just want to see if it was a easy fix.

on the passanger side when sitting still or moving slow, when i turn to right only i hear a squeaking moan type sound. like dry rubber i guess. i got up under the truck and got someone to turn the wheel and pin pointed the sound. i attached a picture of a truck i found to show where
    i am talking about.

the rod below the red circle, that is b/w the upper and lower control arm.
it runs accross to the other side. the sound is comming from inside the boot just above the edge of the skid plate. do i just slip the boot back and lubricate this ? or is this the beginning of something else. i am lifted at 3.25" with icons & have t.c. uca's.

Sounds to me like your upper ball joint needs replaced since I don't beleave that you can grease them. Thats just my two cents.

that is kind of what i thought it was. something to do with the stearing.
before i got under there i thought it was going to to be the bushing for the sway bar.

that is it tire rod, lol. if i slip that boot back, can it be lubed or greased up. the boot looks somewhat similar to a cv boot, but smaller. it starts just outside of the skid and runs under the center of it.

it is not bad, but i know it is not going to get better. the noise is comming from like a 2 inch area above the inside edge of the skid plate.

i did a lot more searching, i think i found out how to fix it. i found this on a ford site, but this sounds exactly like what is going on.

"Hi There!! I was hoping someone can help me with the squeaking in my steering. It sounds to me like a ball joint or rubber steel joint with no grease. It happens every time I turn the steering whell but goes awayh when it is wet out. I have looked for grease fittings but only found a couple in the whole front end. Help!!!!!

Ill bet $40 that its your pitman arm. It can be fixed quick with a little grease and a needle into the pitman arm boot. Do a search of the boards on how to do it.

Thats right, Im sorry I forgot the search is down.... It was on this site or "the other one" someone did a hell of a how to on greasing the pitman arm. The pitman arm is on the front pass side of your truck. It has a rubber boot on it, and you will need a grease needle fitting that goes into your grease gun. All you have to do is squeeze a couple shots of good grease into it, and your're done. The needle fitting only costs about $3.00. Damn, someone help me out here and find that posting with the how to! lol

does it happen only when you turn one way? My squeaks only when I turn right.

YEAHHHHH!!!!!! Thank you !!!! You have no idea how annoying that squeak was! I actually managed to screw an air pump needle into the line off my grease gun and slipped it inside the "boot" Squeak went away after turning lock to lock. SDIESEL you the man! As far as how to...... I found it pretty easy, but I don't think you'd want to puncture thatr boot ... it looks like a real mess to change. So you it was squeaking both ways every time I turned the steering wheel, unless it was really wet out. Thanks again for all your help."

that is exactly what it is doing, squeaking when i turn to the right. off to parts store,
god i love the web. lol
