Good find on the YT thread. Looks like so much fun! I wish the 4Runner was better equipped. It's the DD FJ for now though :D

Yeah I wish i had a trailer rig for the double blacks, but as it stands I tiptoe through single blacks when I get the nerve.

Hopefully you guys don't hate me. I've been pushing this on the FJC forum and the 4Runner forum. Not necessarily to get them to be part of our group but just to let them know we'll be out there. Maybe we can get a Brown's camp Toyota swarm going on. haha.

If you hate me, I'm sorry :(

There's no doubt in my mind that TW is the most actively used automotive forum I have ever seen. Post something on TW, get a response within an hour at the longest. Post something anywhere else, you might get a response within the week. Haha.

mike i wanna steal that gif from you. can i just right click copy and paste?

also put me down for a maybe and i guess medium difficulty. i would say easy but how easy are the easy trails? i want to at least put it in 4x4 not just driving down a dirt road.

As for the caravan stuff, I am not 100% on what day I will be able to make it down there. If i cant head out with you guys would i just have to head to your camp site and wait around?

EDIT: also just fyi. no sliders. i am thinking of taking off my running boards though. good idea?

so I am thinking of buying a CB. The cobra 75 XW ST seems to be the best, and easiest to install. Any idea on antenna types that would work best?

No where to mount something that big. I am looking at a handheld unit.

Right click and save as :)

You only have to drive what you find comfortable. There's a simple 10 minute course right out of camp that can give you a taste, and from there we can decide what to do.
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of really easy trails, but the medium difficulty trails can be done with new guys provided they take it slow and ask for help/advice. You should never have to use much throttle on the first set of medium trails.
If things are uncomfortable, a lot of fun can be had as a passenger! You get to see how to drive without the white knuckles :) Also fun to hang out on the trails.

I guarantee knobs will be twisted :)

As I mentioned, there's no cell service except for Verizon... and I don't know what that's like. If you get there late, I'm not sure when we'd catch back up. If you let me know early, I might be able to swing by camp at Sat noon, but it's a bit tough to meet back up with the crew.

yes good idea. It gives you a slight bit of clearance, plus you won't scrape up the running boards.

I don't like it, simply because I don't like having all the controls on the mic like that. Not liking it much for my Midland, but I deal. I think the Midland is the better choice, though - has more bang for the buck.

I think the 18 WX ST II or the 29 LX LCD are my favs. You want scan, I like digital, and auto squelch is very nice to have.

That one of Zach's isn't too bad, if he gives you a good price it would be worth it.

From what I have read, the antenna mount I have is ideal, short of having it on top of the cab. You don't really want it off the bed because it compromises signal. This is just what I read and heard from all the CB shops.

I have a Wilson 4' flex, and I like it well enough. The flex is nice since I can practically bend it in half - good for trees! I would recommend a tunable tip so you don't have to cut it to length for SWR tuning. It's a freaking long drive, but the CB shop in Clackamas is really good.

Is the Midland the handheld unit? I can get wither from Amazon for under 90 bones (and I have an amazon gift card collecting dust) I really don't want/need a full unit, and have to go through the hassle of finding a mount point, etc.

Is your antenna mount from Relentless?

Right on. I will get the Midland then.

The Midland 75-822 is both. Normally you have a base that has an antenna connector and a cig lighter plug. You can slide off the base, attach a battery pack and shorty antenna = handheld.

    Antenna mount is from Relentless.

$30 Cobra 19DX from Wally World seems to do the job for me. I could hear all you guys well last time and seemed to have decent range. I've got a 4' Firestik Antenna on the FJ "Bandi-Mount"

I think I'll be able to make a day trip on Saturday. Coming from Corvallis haha. I'll probably head straight to the Shell Station right before Browns and jump in behind whichever caravan I see first.

haha, yea it seems to be. Last year at our summer TSF meet we had...6-7 and that seemed like a good turn out for that place. This seems to be A LOT MOREEE lol

    Oh and MIKE,

Caravan wise... im caravan ZERO :) I'm going to try to be their early to snag that one large spot we had last year, or a few spots next to each other.
