I love it. great thing about SF is that we are always doing something new and different so, for some people like myself, it doesn't get boring. I'm currently on my 4th deployment and I'm enjoying it.

What year was this? What FFG? I had a similar event on my last ship, FFG 37 USS Crommelin out of Hawaii when I was on her, $22 MILLION in cocaine seized.

One of the few regrets I have about my career is that I never took many pictures. And, most of what I have are old non-digitals. Maybe I'll scan a few. But, here are a few from the digital age.

Here's a shot of one of the most difficult deployments anyone can ever have. I'm the LTC kneeling in the front - at the time I was commanding the 101st MI in Weurzburg Germany and was tagged to be commander of troops for soldiers sent to Paris, France in support of Eurosatory - the ground arms version of the Paris Air Show. 10 days in Paris - but we did live at a French Army barracks and ate in their dining facilty...now that WAS a hardship!!

    Me in Bosnia 1996.

Ooops!! Ok, that isn't me - my son put together this GI Joe outfitted like me as a gift. ;)

This IS me in Bosnia, Christmas Eve 1996. I deployed my battalion there as the intel support unit for TF Eagle in MND North. TF Eagle was made up of the Div HQs of 1ID, a US IN BDE, A Turkish IN BDE and a Russian Airborne IN BDE. I was being interviewed by a reporter from my hometown.

To those of you continuing to sacrifice for our Nation, I say thanks! My nephew is just completing a tour in Afghanistan now and will be home in a few weeks. You all have sacrificed so much - a much different Army from the one I served even though I only retired 7 years ago.

I thought I'd add two kinda off topic pics here. The first to serve as a reminder of some of the reason that led us to where we are today. This picture was taken standing next to my office door in the Pentagon about 2 weeks after 9/11. We took a team in to try to recover or secure our TS safes. We were fortunate that day - only a few injuries among the soldiers and civilians in our section - but I lost friends and colleagues in other offices close to us. It is a day I will never forget filled with sights, sounds and smells that will always remain burned in my memory.

And, finally, on a lighter note, just to prove that it is possible both to survive 4 years at the Pentagon as well as to actually make it to enjoy your retirement check...this was taken at my retirement ceremony in December 2003. Then LTG Dick Cody, me and my wife.

Again, I thank all of my brethern from all Services for their sacrifice and courage in serving our Nation. As an old artilleryman-turned-intel guy, I am in awe of you all.

    Mark
