I'd love to say the TRD works best but how would I know. The TRD is what have upstream of my TRD supercharger and it work great but, since I only have one truck with one intake I'm really only telling you what I chose. I have AFE on my F350 diesel.

I went with the TRD, and am really pleased. MPG seems to be unaffected under normal driving. Seems to have really given me more HP, but how much I surely do not know. I selected the TRD because it came from the same company that manufactured the rest of the truck. Warranty is intact and unaffected.

Go with the TRD CAI. That's the one I have. Under normal driving Ive seen a slight increase in mpg but nothing really noticable. I havent dyno'd but there is an increase in hp. You get a nice little rumble with it. Since its in a box, you dont have to clean it all the time. As far as what its supposed to do(give you cold air) it definitaly does this. My ScanGaugeII says so. When goin down the road its usually 1-2 degrees from outside temp. Ive never tried the URD one but their a very reputable company and the intake looks pretty cool too. Its all in how much you wanna pay and if your stealership would still warranty your vehicle.

K&N, Airaid, and not sure bout AFE, are not really CAI's. Your stock set up is getting colder air from the wheel well port. TRD uses that port, Volant draws from an optional vent routed from above radiatior, and URD puts the intake in front the radiator, which equals some what of Ram Air...

    URD for my vote:cool:

i voted "others"! just get a good filter such as the afe pro dry s and remove the secondary air filter.............better results with it then with a cai, as you get most benefit with a cai at higher rpms. just my .02.:)

I looked into the TRD exhaust and it gives almost the same HP as the K&N, but at about 70 bucks more. Plus it isnt "street legal" which matters to those who have to do safety and emmisions testing to register a vehicle in certain states like Alaska. Which doesnt make any f-ing sense since there are only 600,000 peeps in the WHOLE state! Plus, although it doesn't void any warranty you have on the truck, it isnt warranteed at all unlike other TRD stuff you get installed before or after you purchase the truck. Now this doesnt affect me right now, and i would rather have the TRD logo under my hood, but im moving to Alaska soon where they test prior to registration every year. Besides, K&N squeeks out a bit more HP anyway, and you pretty much can't go wrong with the product line. So obviously I elect K&N. I just bought mine today actually...

Oh, and someone mention it isnt CAI. Thats not true couse when the lid is closed, it seals against the hood. It draws from the same air duct that the stock does. Besides, cold air really isn't unless its rammed in...

*disclaimer- Haven't installed it yet, only saw pics, and installation...

That was me... Yeah I guess you could say thats some what true, but I doubt that rubber and sheetmetal combibation really keeps out that much heat. Like I originaly stated, the Stock set up is more CAI than AIRAID, and K&N...

But anyways, I tried AIRAID= so so... XDI True Flow= Better, and temps were just about 10-15* above ambient air according to my temp gauge. Will be able to report on URD in a couple weeks...

Biggest bang for your buck would be the MAF Cali, if you really want to get the most out of an aftermarket intake system. If you dont want to mess with all that, drop in a reusable filter, remove secondary filter element, and Im sure you will be more than happy...

Im super confuse about this secondary filter... Maybe it has it own thread??? A buddy at the service dept told me that you cant get to it to remove it. Plus i read on here somewhere that its for for emmisions only and will not affect your performance negatively. Plus it drops your idle WAY down...???

Hey Rox, good to meet you bro. As for the amount of air, it seems like there is more of a chamber to pull from too (with the K&N). The stock chamber is closed in by its casing which would also decrea the temp of the air coming in... just a thought though, i might be wrong... Any tech experts out there?

While this is true, replacing the stock intake setup removes a ton of airway restrictions. With the engine not working as hard you'll see a slight mpg gain.

While it may be pulling in cold air, it is no where near a performance intake. There are too many restrictions, that will kill top end power, and low end efficiency.

K&N gets a lot of neg talk because of the design, an open element intake. I have been running the K&N intake for about a year and half or so. When cruising down the highway my intake temps are usually withing 0-3* of ambient. Call it want you want, the intake temp is as well within acceptable. The only time the open filter intake will have heat soak issues, is when idling, as there is no air circulation under the hood or fender (where the intake gets most of the air). But this will happen with all intakes.

As far as power gains. All of the intakes will achieve there power gains the same way. Removing restrictions, and leaning out the AFR. MAF placement and tubing size/design will have a huge factor in this area. When your flowing large amounts of air, the air doesn't respond well to bends. the smother the path, the better flow you'll get from the intake. Place the MAF to close or too far from the TB and you'll a different reading. You put the MAF too close to the filter and it become susceptible to turbulence, which could cause issues.

When it comes to performance intakes available for the 1GRFE, they will all yield about the same in gains. Tuning it with either the URD MAF Cal, or something more advanced like the APR X-1 will net you the most gains, while keeping your engine safe and reliable.

Same here... My beef is not with any of the Intakes, they are all reputable makes... I was clearly just trying to differentiate the difference of a TCAI, and aftermarket intake setup. But like XRunnIT stated, they all will yeild gains.

Im not a Tech advisor or nothing, just sharing personal experience and learning every day from everyone on this forum.

Keep the info going, lots of new Taco owners benefit from these discusions, and although there may never be a perfect answer; they definately are steered in the right direction...

Dude, no one that I know has done a Dyno on just an A/M Intake. MPG= A/M Intake produces more throttle response, thus= more foot on pedal longevity:D, efficiency= Huh??? Guess you still talking bout fuel, see last statement. Restriction= IMO from most to least (Stock/AIRAID/Volant/TRD/K&N, XDI, AEM, are all straight through open filter element, and URD TCAI but it is in front of Radiator).

Best not sure. I Like the URD design, just take more to install and dose not apply to all uses. Never one correct answer. Intake is for reusable filter convenience, and a great sound + a few added HP depending on set up and calibration. So either go with the poll thats created, or go with your budget.

Not sure what else to tell you; it aint like you are throwing on a SC and BAM!!! the difference is there... It's more of a personal preference. Im on my 3rd buy, and like all else 3 strikes you are out, glad to end up with URD.

Great Company that supports improving our Taco's...

    Laters.
