Planning a trip to OBX to drive the beaches, check out the wild horses, fish, throw children in ocean ect...
Does anyone know of a good place to stay for only one night, and where is a good spot to go on/off the beach to facilitate airing down, then airing back up after coming off the beach, I have no compressor, so I wanted to find the best spot to come off the beach in order to prevent damage to my tires.
    thanks in advance.

The Corolla area is nice for 4 wheeling. You can also drive on the beach at Fort Fisher below Wilmington. You have to buy a day pass though. You won't really need to air down unless you really want to.

You can stay at a fairly inexpensive hotel at Southport, then take the ferry to Fort Fisher and drive down the beach.

There are wild horses at Ocracoke, and the surrounding areas. There is an inn on Ocracoke.

In my opinion the Fort Fisher area is better, the beach is better, there is a lot more stuff to do and see in the area. There is also a nice State aquarium at Fort Fisher. Southport is nice too.

If you go to Corolla or Duck there will be mass crowds, that is why i take my family further south every year. Once you get down towards Salvo or Waves you will have plenty of beach access as well as entrences to the sound. I believe at the more major beach access they do have pumps there but I never used them since I have inboard air on the truck. Just my 2 cents

I'd love to go back to the OBX but it's a hell of a drive from Texas. Made it last summer to head to Emerald Isle for a week. Really nice place but more of a vacation destination than somewhere I'd go for offroading.

Nags Head Inn is a nice place to stay. It's not too far from Corolla and Duck. You'll have a great time there are so many things to do and see! Be sure to go to Jockey Ridge. It's a massive sand dune. You cannot believe how huge it is, in fact Google it and see what all you can do there. Have fun!

What part of obx are you going to? I've heard that in hatteras, they (the gov't) will not allow vehicles on the beach and you cannot surf fish. You might want to double check that.

Some shit I got on craigslist
Frisco x2. The further South the better IMO - for surfing, crowds, fishing and beach driving. Only place you can drive through the dunes though is North of Corolla -Oregon Inlet has been closed the past few times I went, damn birds.
