    Sooooo....newb alert.
Figured this thread would help me. Anyone have suggestions about a good beginner set? What to get, brands, etc? I want something that will last a while and be pretty forgiving since I'm new, and I've already decided that I will be going to my local shop to get fitted and not getting a random set from Dick's or Academy. Suggestions please?

I'll definitely check out the ping beginner line. This definitely helps get a rough idea at what I should be looking for. Thanks for the help.

Played my first game of the season yesterday and shot 80 on a par 72. On the 18th hole I thought I was going to break 80 for the first time in my life. All I had to do was get a bogey or better. Hit a great drive and was only 140 from the pin. Hit my second shot and it went 20 yards into the freekin' creek. Ahhhhhhhh!! Ended up with a double and tied my personal best. Oh well ...... maybe next time!!

You won't go wrong with the Ping's if thats what you decide. I swing Ping Zing irons and they are pretty darn forgiving and hit great. Putt with a Ping Ansr and its great. Got a TaylorMade 5 Hybrid, and a Clevland Launcher driver. Love my irons +1 for Ping. You will be happy if thats what you decide to go with.

x_y, check out http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/ for used clubs. I saved $90 on a set of 3 "like-new" wedges vs buying new-in-the-store, and they are certified and warrantied. They have more than just Callaway. If you want another brand browse the Other Brands section.

The other day i went pawn shopping for a new set of irons. I was shooting Big bertha irons but they were really old and starting to crack on the shafts. So came upon a set of Callaway x-14 Steelheads for 150 bucks, when i told them i wanted them they asked if i wanted the bag and the drivers for another 50 bucks. I said sure.... turns out the driver was a Ping G-10, Callaway Big Bertha Fusion 7 wood (brand freakin new) and an Adams golf Insight A4. When i got home and looked at the drivers i was freakin amazed i got such a good deal on them. All the clubs are in great shape.

Played my first round a couple of days ago with them, the irons hit great. The driver took me awhile to get used to because im not used to big drivers, once i got the hang of it tho I was hitting decent. Oh yea the bag is pretty nice to...
