i don't smoke (including cigarettes), i don't do drugs, i don't drink (except maybe a shot or two for a birthday). i try to keep my vehicles as clean as possible the only thing laying out was my phone in the passenger seat, and a diving knife in it's sheath on my back seat. i was as polite and respectful as i could be, i kept my hands on my steering wheel and turned the engine off. and i said no when he asked if he could search my car. when i said no, he took me out of the car and put me on the curb with another cop and proceeded with his search. i asked him why i was pulled over and he said don't worry about it. in the court room the knife was his PC to search.

Each individual situation is going to be just that, INDIVIDUAL. I don't trust a LEO just because he/she has a badge. The same goes for a grocery clerk, priest, pizza guy, teacher, etc, etc... Soldiers have some intense training and do plenty ourselves. That doesn't make us above the laws, actually we adhere to more. Just like any LEO should, no free passes. When some person really thinks they should get a pass for being a LEO, it's time to get a new job. Most people aren't "man enough" to admit it when/if that ever happens. Most friends are just that, friends instead of fellow officers/soldiers who'll keep you in check. Being in a "service" field is hard, at anytime in a 20 yr career one may HAVE to walk away, or do disservice to the very organization they represent. Sorry about the rant, I have a huge issue with LEO's/Soldiers or anyone in a service role that lack the integrity and conviction to actually do their job, and that don't know when to quit. That said I have a LOT of respect for those who serve honestly and with a passion for their commitment.

A sticker I don't think will EVER stop a cop from asking to search if they are inclined to search in the first place. IMHO it would POSSIBLY put an alert in their minds where one may not have been, lets face it, everyone gets complacent. A traffic stop sometimes is just that, until they see a sticker about a gun/refusal to search. Best thing to do is be within the law and cooperative. Or live in a small enough town where the officers all know you. :)

    Like astral said, wow.

Someone has their panties in a bunch. Sorry you got that. I'm sure the mods will take care of that for you.

In the meantime, just stay safe at your job.

It doesn't seem to matter what forum I go to, threads like this (the law, LEO's, & weapons) always get muddled up and people get heated. I don't think it helps much that the law varies so greatly between places. Nor does it help that the issues are so closely tied to politics. I'm sorry I really didn't help with my rant, I obviously feel strongly about what LEO's and the like do. I also think I got lost in it, did the OP ever get a copy of that sticker?

Whoa, didn't realize LA area! Yeah, any city I can't be out of by the time I am winded from running and can't keep going is too big for my liking.

if they towed your car, it was not an illegal search

the only reason why they towed it was cause it would be parked there over night in a permit required street. the search was done before the tow.

they have to perform a tow inventory, there use to be a search incident to arrest, however that is no longer valid.
