How's ur 3.4s MPG?

Well i've had my truck a little over a month and so far i'm not real impressed with the MPG. I have the 3.4, prerunner, only 55k miles... and i can't get better than 16.5 mpg. My father in law has the same truck but with like nearly 200k on it and gets like 18 mpg. He does have an intake, exhaust, and throttle body spacer tho. I drive pretty chill most of the time. What kinda mpg are u guys getting?

 

im gettin about 18 average as long as im not towing anything or locking the hubs or off road

but before i got my lift and tires i was making over 20 like every tank

maybe you should do some maintenance check your plugs and air filter and maybe seafoam it

 

I consistently get 18.5 - 19.0 with driving around town (hwy and city streets). Just went down to Oregon last weekend and got over 21 mpg with 90% hwy driving. This is with a stock truck with 183,000 mi on 265/75/16 Duratracs.

 

I've got a 3" lift and 265/75/16 tires (slightly larger than stock) with no engine mods and I'm getting about 19.5 mpg. Try to stay 65 mph and below. Driving over 65 reduces your mpgs dramatically.

 

our trucks were only rated at 17 city and 20 hwy, so getting 16.5 city with 265 duratracs and added weight is fine by me!

I average in the low 19s with a fair mix of highway-city driving. First thing I'd suggest is checking your tires' air pressure and then make sure your fuel system and air filter are clean. In case you haven't researched it yet throttle body spacers don't do anything for performance or mileage so don't start thinking about getting one.

 

Yea i guess i should check my plugs and filter. I havent done either since i've had the truck... Thanks for the input. I didn't even think about checkin my tire pressure

 

13-14. But I drive it like I stole it.

 

i just drove 1,150 miles from Lake Tahoe, ca to Boulder, CO and averaged 21.6 going 75 on cruise control most of the way. stoked.

 

I just tuned my 96 up. and it seems i lost a mile or two per gallon. I think it could be either due too my spark plug gap,new injectors or my non-Toyota coil packs. I used to get 19.5 ez any time and better on hwy. now it is stuck with 17. so I would say replace plugs and see if that helps.

 

getting about 12-15 in town and a little better on HWY. but up a 6% grade i get about 7-8 mpg..... im doing pretty bad all the way around

 

I WISH I got 16mpg.

heheheh, thats about the size of it, I've never read anywhere that a 3.4 was a gas sipper, I wheel with 2nd gens all the time & I swear that 4.0 is better with gas mpg

But the 3.4 runs pretty damned strong so , I'll live with that....

Don't exceed 70mph... shift around 2500rpm... and don't be afraid to use CC whenever possible on the hwy. Just following those rules alone, I sit around 18.5 - 19 mpg. I'll hit 20+ on long hwy trips, using CC the majority of the time.

 

I avg about 18. It helps to get tires with the least "rolling resistance" lots of folks pay no attention to this aspect of tire buying-but I do. I know I don't ever go offroad so I don't need offroad tires. I swear by Michelin X Radial LT's. These are among the lowest rolling resistance tires you can get for trucks. You have to remember that this truck is 2 tons and if you get into the pedal too much she'll drink fuel like a smallblock v8

 

average is about 19. In a strong headwind i'll get about 18 and with a tailwind I can get up to 21 on the freeway.

 

So i checked my tire pressure and all four tires were running 34 psi. Its says 44 psi max on the tire so i aired em up to 40 psi all around. we'll see if that helps. what psi do u guys run in ur tires? also i checked my air filter and its perfect. was replaced bout 2k miles ago...
