CAT converter???

So I was in a rollover a while back, was still having problems with my truck. Got a CEL (P0171), had my shop look at it, needs a new O2 sensor and catalytic converter. They said I could go OEM or Aftermarket, but aftermarket would save me about $1,000 on my policy. But, I have heard that yotas don't like aftermarket catalytic converters. Is this true? Is it worth it for OEM? Agent said that the aftermarket catalytic converter does have a warranty... thoughts? Help!

 

I've found that most aftermarket high flow cats don't work as efficiently as OEM and won't get hot enough for the computer not to throw a CEL.

 

I'd stay away from aftermarket. If it's possible contact a local junk/scrap yard and see if they have a cat for your truck. Would be cheaper that OEM new and better than aftermarket.

 

I had a cat stolen from my old truck. Went aftermarket and had no issues for the 10months I kept the truck. I don't know the brand since I let the exhaust shop find it and install. I know they said it was california emission converter.
Also I asked 2 junk yards for the cat and they said they could not sell a used cat converter.

 

Thanks all. I decided to go aftermarket since I don't have the extra $1000 that insurance wanted me to pay if I went OEM. They have a warranty on it, and since it was all accident-related, I'll make the insurance company pay for whatever may go wrong.

 

cut the cat, cut the o2 sensor and run a resistor in the loop all ya gotta do!

 

Thus accomplishing what exactly??
