Tire Recommendations

What tires do you recommend for a 4x4 17in wheel DC V6? I want good handling, low road noise and comfortable ride. Thanks!

 

I had the Wrangler Silent Armor on my previous Tacoma. They were a good, all around tire. The biggest issue is that, just like all Goodyear tires, they are overpriced.

I put a set of Firestone Destination A/T's on my wife's SUV. They seem to be great. Low road noise, good wet and dirt traction, and not too bad in the snow. She drives a shit ton of miles and they still look brand new.

If you plan on doing any serious off-roading, I recommend the Destination M/T's. I have a set on my patrol truck that sees daily soft sand, sharp rocks, and big boulders. I've never been close to getting stuck with them. They have lasted well over a year, which is impressive considering the type of driving I do. The only drawback is that they are a little soft on the highway.

That's a pretty vague list of needs, you'll definitely want to include a bit more. Are you looking for an A/T tire or a highway tire? The best handling, low noise and comfortable ride tire IMO is the Michelin LTx ms2, but that's if you are going to be onroad most of the time.

 

I purchased my Tacoma pre-owned and it has the P265/65R17 Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S.
They ride very smooth and they are very quiet. I usually do not do much off road.

I have Nitto Terra Gripper AT's and the noise at hwy speeds is mimimal. A little vibration when driving with them at hwy speed but I have seen and heard far worse! Overall I really like the looks, feel, and sound (as in fairly quiet) of them.

I just got the Yokohama Geolanders A/T and like them so far.

 

I like these too, for a quiet tire. the HT or AT. Just be sure not to get the 'Load E', get the P or C, whichever they make.

 

If you are not off-roading much and want a high mile all season tire, I have the Michelin MS2 LTX 265/65/17. It is a 70,000+ tire and does well in PA snow and sticks like glue on rainy days!

X2 for the Michelin LTX. My last two full size trucks I installed these tires. I averaged 80K with acceptable tread left and perfect wear. Great on road performance, the best i have had so far. My new TRD Sport 4x4 has 900 miles on it but can't wait to change out to the Michelin.

 

Can you elaborate on why not to get the 'Load E'? I'm thinking about getting ATs for my truck (245/75/16), but Tirerack doesn't sell the AT in anything but E load rating. I haven't checked with my local tire stores yet.

 

General Grabber AT2. Best warranty, aggressive off road, and quiet on road.., oh yeah.., great price point too!

if you want a great tire that will last you about 55,00 miles and be very quiet on highway go with the michelin ltx.... if you want a " all terrain" tire that is quiet on the highway and a outstanding performance off road i suggest you get the BFGoodrich ALL TERRAIN KO. and they last about 40,000 great tire over all. Price is not as cheap as others but you get what you pay for and the bfg's are worth it.

 

I have the Firestone Destination A/T's for about 51K miles thus far with some life left in the them. I would recommend them, as would a lot of people on Tire Rack since they've been #1 there for quite a while.

However, I will be going with something more aggressive shortly, probably the Duratracs.
