Hi everybody, since a long time I have not post a new thread but I have a new question about the key of our tacoma. Do you think it's waterproof and stainless steel? Because I do many watersports activity on the sea so I want the key on my pocket. I know that the keyless entry is not water proof. Do you think the chip on the key will damage with the sea? thanks

    stock, for now
i dont think saltwater would be good for it. espically the chip. Best bet would be find a dry box to put it in or something.

Get a non-chipped key made to lock/unlock your doors. Stash the chipped key somewhere in the truck.

For the price of the non-chipped key you can carry a couple with you.

The chip is encased in the plastic, so I can't really see it being a problem. My biggest concern would be it falling out of a pocket, and sinking to the bottom of the lake/ocean.

They look pretty water proof. I don't think you'd have an issue with them. And no, they won't rust.

I must have gotten really lucky because I had my key and key fob in my pocket while swimming in the Atlantic for at least 5 minutes before I realized what I had done. I really expected the worst. I won't ever do that again. Surprisingly, mine worked fine when I tried it at the end of the day. :)

Good point, if it's the key with the keyless entry buttons, it's likely not waterproof. But the one without the buttons should be.
