    I have to rant this.

I've got this buddy that I've had since highschool. He's a huge asshole, but a funny one. Anyway, I've been with my girlfriend for over 4 years, we've lived together for about 1 1/2 and we're saving up for a down payment on a house. He was over at my house about a year ago bitching that he can never find a girlfriend.

So, I told him he should go on a date with our mutual friend. He told me, plainly, that she was too fat/ugly for him (he's fatter, uglier, smellier).

Less than a month later, they are dating. Less then three months after that, she's pregnant. Four months, they're married.

Her mom is rolling in it- she paid and planned for their elaborate, lavish wedding in which I was the best man. Her sister's brother owned the reception hall, and covered all the food/alcohol. Her mom then gave them her home, which is a brand new 4/2 with a heated swimming pool, fully furnished with pots, pans, televisions, beds, leather couches, you name it. They are living there, alone, under the stipulation that they pay $300 rent. I know this is not much at all for them, considering they both work, but I'm actually responsible for getting him his job (which pays for his schooling), and he makes the same money I do.

Because her sister just had a baby, she's given them all of her old baby stuff (which is practically brand new), so they feel as if they don't need to buy anything.

They've been using the 5K+ that was given to them for getting married to buy things like

a new car stereo, and new speakers for his 2-door manual cobalt, that his wife is incapable of driving and is completely impractical to keep let alone put money in when he has a baby on the way.

guns. he's purchased 2 guns, which are similar in appearance to both the guns I've allowed him to shoot of mine in the past.

I took them shooting once and he insisted on buying them both a pair of the self-attenuating earmuffs just for that day, shit like that.

Anyway, I ended up falling off a ladder at work, breaking my spine, pelvis and right arm and was hospitalized for a month, and they visited me ONCE. Also, when I got out, I was stuck in a wheelchair for about 3 months. He actually asked me to help him move his stuff, and clean out his garage. While I was in a wheelchair.

    JUST VENTING.

I feel your pain. I have had friends like that and I learned to cut them loose.
I was raised not to be mean to others but I learned life is too short to deal with these kinds of people.

Just a bunch of old crap
I cut friends loose for alot less than your reasons. I hate it when friends don't pull their weight in the friendship, and all you see is the frustration of their irresponsible lifestyle. I only surround myself with quality friends now, and people like this don't make the cut. I'm much happier because of it.

That's terrible. All that you've done for him and he doesn't take time out for you. :(

Now you know where you stand with him. As much as it may hurt, you gotta make your decision.

Hoping you feel better and that there's no permanent damage and are able to be at full work potential. Did the doctor say that you will eventually be able to be at full function?

If I could offer you some advice it would be this. Don't keep track of what you do for others or what you feel they owe you for having done something for them. When you do something for someone, it's then because you want to do it. Not because of what you will receive in the future--makes life a whole lot easier.

Yeah, this happened in november. I fell from 27' onto a concrete loading dock, no nerve damage or anything like that. I'm still out of work but it's because the incision on my back has had a hard time healing because of the back brace I had to wear, now I'm just waiting for it to heal up so I can get back to work.

As for everyone else, I think I am going to try to get the hell away from him, he's just a really difficult person. I also don't want him to think that I'm jumping ship on him solely because he's a dad now. I'm going to give him the chance to let the kid change him into someone with some decent grasp on personal responsibility, and see where it goes from there.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend to me. The moving thing alone would have probably caused me to kick him in the nuts. I really hate d&*k weasels who spend money on crap they don't need, especially when they have a kid and family to take care of. And who the hell puts a new stereo and speakers into a crap car like a Cobalt?? And for all those post saying you're jealous? To me, it doesn't sound like this dude has a good life at all, more like he's trying to make up for something he's missing in his own life.

develop friendships with quality people... move away from people like that. don't stay close to people out of convenience. you'll always be there for him, the minute the tables are turned, sounds like he's not really there for you.

    I actually have.

He apologized for not going to the hospital, and the fact that I've always jumped to help him out and he's never returned the favor.

When I told him I was concerned about the way he was spending all of his extra money and not conserving that he had for the baby, he said "I dont think I'll be able to spend $5,000 dude. Plus, we'll get everything we need between the baby shower and her sister."
