Have you looked at the 05-06 ZX6R (636) I just picked up one for this season and sold my 650R. Absolutely love the 636 it's a great bike, and can be had for 4-5k in great shape.

As a trackday rider I have lots of opinions and know the ups and downs of a lot of models because I work at 2wheel custom performance.
Each bike has signature pros and cons. What are you looking to get out of the bike? Will it be strictly street or will it see track time?
My personal opinion would be a R6 or a new GSXR. But my bikes only see track time not a street rider.
The CBR is a great top of the line all around bike! Honda has not been making improvements just for race or the track but a equal all around good in every area but not great in just one. Personally best street bound bike on the market..

I have no affiliation with Honda and or any other brands mentioned above. All statements are personal opinion and fact.

Any questions pm me and ill shoot you my number

OP how long have you been riding? you say you have a 2011 650r.

honestly you should put more miles on that.

long how has the GF been on her 250? because she should probably be putting more on that before upgrading as well. if you choose to ignore my advise then get which ever bike looks the best and fits the best to you. and please wear your gear.

I had a Ninja 250 before that I put about 9000 miles on it before I got the 650 earlier this year... and put about 3000 miles on it before I deployed. I ride quite a bit. My GF probably has around 5000 on her 250. I really like the 650 but my GF wants it, so instead of having 2 650s I figure I should get a better bike to have for awhile and let her have the 650

i say the gixxer....i had a 08 r6 modded which was a nasty track bike but not nice at all to street ride..i also had a zx6r modded out which was nice to ride around town but lacked heavily in top end performance (the r6 made it look like a joke).....that being said my friend had a new gixxer 600 with mild mods that diddnt hurt my back was great around town and was almost on par in the top end department as my r6....
gixxer gets my vote but id step up to the 750..only a few bucks more and doesn everything so much better :)
if you get an r6 get an 08 or newer r6r model beter brakes, susp, motor then 07 an back
also there is an r6s model which you dont want basic ,ugly, much slower
as others were saying the triumph 675 is an awsome all around bike also, cost alil more and if your short like me (5'7'') its hard to get your feet on the ground and it feels alil streached out...

good to hear you spent a good amount of time on the 250 before upgrading.
and i see your reasoning if the GF is getting the 650.

honestly any of the bikes will be more than enough for the street but from riding all the bikes in question and then some, i can tell you this.

R6: long stretch to the bars, really high pegs, short wheel base so its very nimble but also a little twitchy and falls into corners really fast. no bottom end, not that it cant be streetable but when you hit 8k rpm its a serious rocket. things huge turbo lag. also has a really tall seat height, im 5'11 and cant flat foot the bike comfortable even with my boots on. no stock damper.

CBR: small package, close reach to the bars. nimble bike but not as twitchy as the r6. great mid range but nothing up top. electronic damper is not the greatest and no slipper clutch. low seat height.

GSXR: most comfortable and confidence inspiring package. cheap feeling parts. bad gixxer squid stigma ;) good mid range, better top than cbr.

ZX6R: good mid-range, top end almost as good as R6, best braking, medium reach to bars, pegs, seat height. no stock damper.

but really pick one that is comfortable that has a good dealer close to you. dont but a honda if the closest dealer is 300 miles away... etc..

My friend has an '08 GSXR600 that he bought brand new and he has put less that 1200 miles on it and its never been down. Its been stored in his garage and he doesn't want it anymore. I'll ask him how much he wants for it. Its located in Santa Cruz.

Yeah I'm only 5'8" and the bike will more than likely never see a track... I want it to ride around on during the weekends, probably go on medium distance trips, and commute to work every now and then when the weather permits.
