I'm surprised this thread is alive, but nonetheless, for the big surprise despite my user name, I am born and raised Catholic.

its sad that you think you have to get personal and call everyone who doesnt feel the same as you an idiot.
    1. your facts are all screwed up...
    2. maybe you should cast your ignorance aside and fact check your statements and refrain from insults before you make yourself look like a jack ass infront of everyone.
    3. theres is no way an 8 year old is adept enough to make those kinds of decisions.
    4. that is your God given right to feel that way. exercise your right to free will, but dont be insulting when no one has insulted you.

I dont understand the want or need to pick a side and say the other is wrong. Not one single living person knows which way or the other.

I dont like christians who proclaim people are going to hell.
I dont like muslims who wage war in the name of god.
I dont like atheists who make it their sole purpose in this world to try and call out and attack people who chose to have faith.

for all the "living life to the fullest because there is nothing after" that is fine to hold that belief... Why spend your time trying to call out the religious? Seems like a waste to me. Look what this thread has turned into.

Clearly some very bitter people about things that happened in their childhood.

i have never attacked an atheist for what they believe. if anyone asks me what i believe then i will tell them. if i talk to you about Christ its out of genuine concern for your soul... not because i think youre an idiot... atheists tend to be so harsh and angrily defensive... i would hate to know that i had to live my life pissed off at the world. but i guess if i believed that life in general was pointless, i would be pretty pissed off.

i think many call out the religious because many religious take in there hands to try and force their religion on others and believe they are higher being because of their religion. Not saying all religious people are like this but I've been christened by many.

tacomatt : i never said every country was free... oppression by other humans is totally irrelevant if thats what youre talking about... ultimately all humans decide their spiritual standing... whether its made public knowledge or not.

no i did not mean for that to come out that way. but noah's ark REALLY! so you see no holes in that story or the creation theory? maybe it's not stupidity to you would it make you fell better if i said it was childish? really did not mean to offend believe it or not and if i did please except my apology. now i will disagree with you when you say i have my fact's wrong. no one knows what will happen period! that unapologetic certainty that most religious people posses is based on 2,000 y/o nonsense. there is ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF OF ANY OF THIS STUFF! i believe whats in front of my face which happens to be a complete lack of factual data to back up any of this caca that people call religion. i mean dude some mormons believe in supernatural under wear that will protect them LOL! you have to admit there is some silly stuff out there right? well then step back and compare what you may happen to believe against what they believe and then everyone is arguing about things that have no basis in reality. thats my point pass the butt plugs

So something happened in your childhood. Why can't you live and let live? accept that you cannot change the people who have forced their views on you. Instead you attack the religion.

This country was founded on a belief system like it or not. If you dont like it, there are plenty of atheist nations of the world where you wont be accosted for being a non believer lol

you go on youtube and some preacher makes a video for his church and it'll have pages of atheist comments. That is not being forced on you, you chose to attack it.

I believe in God but I do not subscribe to the beliefs of any organized religion (Christian/catholic, buddhist, buddhist, etc). Primarly because I don't understand the idea that "our way is the only way (to salvation, to live rightly, etc.)" That is an attitude of righteous arrogance -- Nazis think the same way. My religion is based on a personal relationship with God, it's just between the two of us and I don't need anyone to interpret or show me the way or save me. I do my best to listen and watch for signs of His will, they are subtle but they are there. I believe the path of a person's life largely depends on our actions and how we treat our fellows right here and right now... offer to help, share a kind word, and give freely of what has so graciously been provided to you, from you-know-who. Some call it karma... I am not perfect but I try to be a useful human being and not be selfish or lazy or mean, even if someone hurts me. Some of the worst human beings I have ever met were regular church-going folk. Also, I can't help the thoughts that come into my head but I can decide what to do with them. Again it's all about our actions (or inactions).

EDIT: I just went against my policy of not discussing politics or religion, but then I did not really get into a discussion anyway.

    Well said!

What ever side you are on, why do you give a shit what the others think or say? I for one am Catholic, I choose to belive the basics of the religion, I may or may not be wrong, dont know. Just like you who spend your time trying to disprove religion, the biggest pain in the ass to me are people who try and convert or push their beliefs on someone. You going out of your way disproving religion is just the same, are you know going to convince me that x-runner is a better truck because of ??? I fully understand that religion is just like every forum on the web, good advice there, but you still have to think twice about you read and see and take it with a grain of salt. For something that is not proven factual or fiction, why are you going to argue it?

indeed, its a giant endless and worthless debate, we all have free will.. why try to force others to give up their option of free will.. and to call them sinner or idiot or anything for their choice is just absurd to me

I want to avoid the jist of this arguement because neither of you is going to prove either wrong, but I will say, how can you say that the story of Noah's Ark is not true? Maybe the story was told by Noah as he saw it? Just like everyone who sees ghost or UFO's these days, when this hapens to them, they remember the extreme. Possibly there was a flood in a region that wiped out everything, Noah did what he was told in a dream or whatever maybe got lucky, and gathered what he thought was two of every animal. Remember, the view of the world was much smaller then, so what ones interpretation may have been, may have been exaggerated, but not necessarily false. All I'm saying is there is nothing disproving that this or other events did not happen, to the extent and actual accuracies can only be known through the story teller.

Live and Let Live. I dont force my beliefs on people, but have a hard time digesting it when others try to feed me theirs. When i constantly have to remind them, "hey, I am respecting your right, respect mine", it gets a little irritating.

I filled in on a softball team that ended up being a church team- they would go out after, get drunk, cheat on their wives, etc. But then chastize me for not saying amen to their prayer before every game. Why does it have to be such a display? Whos to say i am not praying respectfully by myself? Who is in the wrong there?
