Keep in mind when you air down a skinnier tire the footprint elongates as well. Having weight over a skinny strip can be useful in a variety of situations. Maybe if I buy a trail rig down the road I'll buy bigger tires, but those will probably be 35-37s

Yeah for a dd that hits the trails occasionally a 32" or 33" tire is a pretty good size. The wider 33"s work as well but im not going to cut up my truck to fit them under full flex....yet :D

well guys my truck is basically stock with a K&N drop in and a 3 inch lift and some 2011 sport wheels with stock tires 265/65/17's and I use the lucas fuel injector treatment every fuel up..I get about 22mpg and I basically drive 2 miles to work everyday and around town for errands..No complaints and it never drops below 18 even if i drive like a jackass! 3.4 liter with 140k

give me a break-you make it sound like I have ice cubes for tires:rolleyes:
these tires are grippy as fuck-they just aren't all with the knobby tread that deforms and acts like adhesive sponge rolling down the street. They are fat with a good footprint but with street tread and they corner with NO wash. Couldn't ask for a better tire and I am sure others who have them will say the same thing.

I want to run 255/85/16s or 33/10.5/15s. I think they look really good on the 1st gens from the pictures I've seen. They will get a little better gas mileage than wider tires and have less rubbing issues.

Yeah I got ya but we have that covered due to the width of the footprint:) they stop this truck real good-as per experience.
I am on my 2nd set of these tires-plenty of personal experience with them. I should add they are a killer rain tire too-cut right through freeway water sheets and cross streams like butter-wheras the original BF goodrich terrains almost sent me into a guardrail.
Back on topic, OP your tires affect your mileage too. You have a good thread here, sorry to go off topic like I did.
To answer your question about tire pressures, my tires say 35psi max and I run them at 32psi. Higher than that and you can see the edge of the footprint come off the ground on my tires:)

Agree:) definately not an "aggressive" tread pattern, but a hellova cruiser.

My 3.4 v6 gets about 16-17 mpg and I've tried several things but haven't checked the spark plugs....yet. I've installed a K&N FIPK intake system, overinflated the tires to about 38 psi, drive slow, and don't gas it hard.

I do have a 3" suspension lift and 285 BFG All terrains, so that doesn't help.

I've heard that the gas in CA has additives to help it burn cleaner but in turn decreases your MPG. My friend from AZ swears that he gets better mileage when he's in AZ and it drops when he uses gas here in CA. Anybody heard of this?

Yeah, like 10% Ethanol. But don't other states have ethanol too. Or does CA just use more of it?

Thanks for the link. Well there's no ethanol free stations anywhere close to me. And that link says that ethanol can decrease fuel efficiency by up to 40% !!!!!! WTF

5100's all the way around, OME 880's and AAL, BF's 265/75R16. Switched beds from Stepside to Fleetside
Just got back into a 1rst gen 2002 TRD, 5spd 3.4L, seems to be stock with 265/70 R16's.

3 tanks so far, looking at 17 city and 20.5 hwy. I'm happy with that coming from a 2010 SR5 acc cab 4.0L 6spd. I had a 98' 3.4L before the 2010, it was getting about the same as the 02'.

Yeah you make a good point that gets a guy thinking..what a racket!! Mix a fast burner in with the good fuel, it burns off quicker and gets everybody back to the pump sooner for more..PLUS jack the price up and man they got us good. Cleaner burning my ass-ethanol is a moneymaker.
