DeMello Sliders (Rust)

Anyone have this problem with their sliders?

I had them painted and rhino lined but it looks like it's just road debris doing this based on the area affected... It's only the forward facing side..

 

I have the same sliders and the same exact issue, I asked Demello and they said just hit them with a rattle can

 

If they aren't properly prepped before coating them you will have these problems.

 

I had mine powder coated by a local shop than a few months later the rhino over the powder coating..

I think this is design flaw because so much of the bar extends downward and catches road debris and rocks as you drive

 

I would agree with Paintdiddy and say your powder coater did a crappy job on the prep. I've got powder coated hardware and mounting brackets for my side steps on my 2007 and they now look about as bad as your 2010. They're basically 1/8 or 1/4" plate steel on edge so there's a large forward facing area catching road salt and dirt. If the powder coating wasn't applied propery, the rhino liner wouldn't have been effective either...

 

Road debris will chip paint/powdercoat. I can't really call it a design flaw- They are bars of metal made to protect the truck from objects on the ground/sides of the truck- OF COURSE they are going to stick out/down.

Just use some emory/machine cloth or some sandpaper to clean it up and then rattle can it.

 

Mine were sent powdercoated from Demello, they do catch a lot of debris which is good and bad, I figured I would just sand them down hit them with some primer and flat black spray paint.

Mine have been on there for 1.5 years I live in IL where we use salt for everything...

I have seen other sliders here in IL that they have a higher angle (they hug the body a little better) that still look better than these..

yeah...don't want to say design flaw..bad choice of words..just that I have seen others (mostly round tube) that don't experience.

posting just to see if I was the only one, not to bash the product..

 

I have seen round tube PC sliders do the same in less than 3 months. My round tube sliders still look new. A little pricey but, I base coated mine with POR-15 and top coated single stage spray paint.

As others have said its unavoidible. You can sand/prep/paint it with whatever you want the paint (even plasti-dip or everlube) will not hold up over time to debris. Maybe you could cover the supports with something solid?

 

No mudflaps?

 

if u put one up front it would help if u have a metal shop put a plate along the bottom and top it would stop for sure, or just bottom and put a 1/2 in hole in each gap as a drain it would stop

I'm calling bullshit.why do you have to paint it when it never leaves the jack stands?

 

Unfortunately anything you spray on there will sooner or later wear off. Over the years I have had everything powder coated on my truck and end up usually spray over it after a trip or two off-road. Bottom line is the sliders are in direct line from tires spraying everything from road salt to gravel.

Spray paint wears off the fastest, powder coating last a little longer and I believe line-x last the longest but it also peels off if you use the sliders as sliders.

Bottom line is anything mounted down there that are intended for trail use will rust over time.

Yes the worse the prep is the faster it will wear off. Our powder coater sand blast and sprays the powder coating with a 7mil or thicker coating. We actually just changed our P/C again and they not only sand blast but chemical treat them as well.
