Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Quick question: What do I need to have to visit if I don't have a passport? Any age limits on what is required (for instance my 4 month and 2 year old)? I was told for my kids a birth certificate will be sufficient, does it need to be long form or short form? Will a birth certifiacte work for an adult?

theres a passport card thing for land and port? crossings.. its pretty much for us people to visit canada and mexico

BUT a US citizen cannot be denied reentry into the US, so if you bring your birth cert, they'll be pissed at you but you'll get back in

EXTREMELY sure. I was there when they planned for their trip.

I would list this experience as highly not recommended, if they say no, you're boned for 4-6 weeks

Well, I have looked on both US and Canada's requirements and they both require a passport, however that what prompted me to ask because I have people who have recently done with just the birth certificate.

The card they are talking about is a passport card, which is only good for land use, won't work for air travel.

i know for a fact the u.s border crossings are much more strict than ours. if you dont have a passport you're not getting into the states. i guess ours are a little more relaxed.

    From Passport Website.

The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.

:canada: Are the kids in Canada as misbehaved as they are down here? I've had two mailboxes destroyed in a two day time period.

Yet again shows how Canadians are smarter. Are you allowed to carry guns up there?
