Best options to avoid dings from wheel spray

My tacoma is now flappless and I noticed lots of mud spray coming all the way up the sides. It's only a matter of time before the spray does some damage.

What are the best solutions for this? Sliders, 3M adhesives, 3rd party shorty mud flaps (don't really want flaps back on...), etc

 

I have seen a few people rino line the bottom side panel of there trucks. It looks pretty good but it might be expensive.

 

I heard 3m has a film you can apply, but mud flaps are the easiest route.

 

Eventually dirt makes its way around the edges of that and it looks terrible. Mud flaps are your best bet, that's why they were put on in the first place. Rather than use aftermarket flaps, you can use tin snips or a dremel to shave down the factory ones. That way you still have a nice fit when you're done. Some sliders will provide protection but that is not their primary purpose so they don't do a great job of it.

 

I'm getting the same thing. I had to remove my flaps to fit 285's. I wish I could fit the mudflaps. They are the best protection. Back when I was running 265/75/16's I just trimmed about 3" off of my stock flaps.

You can always make your own mud flaps and hang them farther back than stock.

Two such in one week. How do i muffle the sound of my exhaust (a muffler, oh I removed that); How do I stop mud and rock from hitting my car (mud flaps, oh I removed those). I wonder if engineers sit around rooms coming up with solutions to such problems prior to building vehicles. Like how to roll down the window, have it roll on a hard surface, etc.

I'm looking for an alternate solution. it doesn't have to be perfect.

 

Some states/provinces its illegal NOT to have mudflaps. Usually its people (dicks) without mudflaps that chip my paint/windshield.

Since you live in Calgary in Alberta you are required to have mudflaps going to the horizontal middle point to the axle. (Ticketable offence)

Don't think your gonna get a different response from me of alternative. PUT ON MUDFLAPS

 

Cabelas' has a Camo vinal that goes along the bottom portion of your sides, it looks pretty cool and can be removed if you dicide sometime that you don't like it. Cabelas.com.............

 

So many things on the road contribute to the dings and pits on your truck or car. Is everyone a "dick" that doesn't have mudflaps even though only a portion of those rocks get kicked up? What about the fact that every US car manufacturer doesn't even install mudflaps from the factory? It is a dealer optio.? Are all of those unsuspecting people that buy those cars "dicks" because they did not ask for an overpriced option?

It is a risk in driving such as the teenager next to you who is texting while eating McDonald with 8 people in the car. Get over it!

 

Alberta BY Law that you have to have mudflaps. And MANY Rock chips can be avoided by mudflaps. Lets see how you like it when semi-trucks ahead of you don't like mudflaps

BTW: we use gravel on our roads in the winter and it doesn't get swept up till around end of june so know where I am coming from.

 

Actually, you threw mud flaps out there as one of your own solutions so I assumed you weren't opposed to putting them back on and suggested trimming the stock flaps instead of buying another set.

 

how about aftermarket fender flares? haven't seen that mentioned yet. bushwacker makes several different sizes/options. noticed they aren't terribly popular here---wonder why.

OK so you are talking Canada for the law. Now I know not to go to Canada without mudflaps. I am in Colorado and we do use gravel/salt in some places as well. It is just part of the everyday risk IMO.

Semi-Trucks are a different story because the entire tire is exposed on either the truck or the trailer if the mudflap is not there. Also the diameter of the tire is usually much larger. Most (not all) regular trucks have at least the top half of the tire still covered by the fender.

I see your point of view and I have mine. So

 

Having a firm grasp of the obvious, my assumption would be that the more aggressive tire one would tend to find on a truck would tend to send more debris flying than would a typical car tire, in pretty damn near all cases.

...and the typically higher stance of a truck in relation to a car would have more of a tendency to send those projectiles even higher into the air, especially were the meathead to not have mudflaps on his rig.
