I don't know the exact reasons... historical, memorial, etc? My best guess would be a memorial to the pilots that died.

Plane crashes in remote locations are often left in place. To expensive and to dangerous sometimes to recover them.

Investigation is conducted on scene and critical evidence is recovered and the rest left alone. Military training and general aviation accidents are treated much differently than commercial airliner accidents.

When I lived in Niceville FL, the woods were full of military "stuff" that was left in place.

There is a group of off roaders in Cali that wheel out to known crash sites pretty much every weekend. There are a lot of them.

    Thanks!

It is hard to make out, I was leaning toward a T-6 or T-28 until I saw the exhaust ducting. That combined with the straight tail and wings pretty much narrowed it down.

there should be many spots around there...there are many forest roads off the peak to peak highway that could also hold some camping spots

There are some deep drifts on north facing slopes above 10,700 in the trees.

Thanks guys. It kinda sucks trying to wake up at 5:00 am to go wheelin when you work graveyards all week. It's easier to get up to the trail on sat afternoon and camp, plus its funner!
