A piece of recent history is making its way through the Mountain State on its way a permanent museum exhibit at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
U.S. Airways Flight 1549, which pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger splash-landed in the Hudson River, is being trucked along Interstate 79. The Airbus 320 has been stored at a New Jersey warehouse since that landing back on January 15th of 2009.
Tuesday afternoon, the plane was traveling on I-68 to Morgantown, eventually taking a stop at the Fairmont weight station of I-79.
"I'm absolutely staggered at the number of people standing along highways watching the plane go by," said Shawn Dorsch, the volunteer president for the Carolinas Aviation Museum.
Dorsch says the plane is spending extra time in the Mountain State.
