    hey guys.

well i scratched the crap out of my sub enclosure on a long road trip , just from a suitecase rubbing it so i decited to paint it up. i went with black just because i felt it looked a little tacky the way it was. anyway let me know what you think.

The paint looks great, but I'm still not used to seeing those things back there!

yeah I know. to be honest it doesnt put out much at all and when it does it rattles like crazy. i took it out but there are the mounting holes which are verry obvious. ive been brainstorming a creative way to cover them up it i end up taking it out but no good ideas yet.

    Looks great!

Do you have a DIY for those of us who aren't ready to go blindly into the back? I have paint ready for mine.

Does anyone have a pdf file on the removal/install of 05-08 and 09 access cabs? I would like to switch out the entire back seat at some point. I have asked this question in the past but I think it was overlooked. Might have to finally post a new thread about it.

I'm interested in how to take it out as well. My dad just bought an 09 and he doesn't like (want, need, use) the sub. He will probably end up taking it out and I can put it in my 06.

okay so here is how to remove the enclosure. its real easy.

    1. at the bottom of the enclosure there is a small cover that is attached by 2 clips on the inside. just reach from either side and work it out.

    2. the main plastic piece comes off next. there are 6 clips that hole this on. i found it easier to start from one side. once you get one side partially out then you can goto the next one and pull on it. it gave me a bit of trouble so i used a thin allen key to get behind it and help me pop out the clips

    3. once thats out you are left with the sub itself. its held on by 4 10mm bolts. the ones at the bottom can be a bit tricky.

    4. the last thing to do is disconnect the wire harness from the bottom! and this is what you are left with.

    see! easy.

as for painting. i just prepped with some 400 grit sandpaper. and gave it 3 coats of black paint and 2 of clear coat. I reccomend using a paint called krylon fusion it bonds really well with plastic and you can even get it at walmart.

yeah as you can see the gaps left in the seat could be a problem for your dad. do you think you could swap out the entire seat and enclosure? where there any changes made to the back that wouldnt enable that?

Thanks for the DIY. I was afraid to touch this thing. Seems so fragile. Hopefully there will be an aftermarket item which can be more subued and still perform. That is if i can get these damned seats out!

i had never seen the backseat of an access cab before i bought my 09 and from what it looks like the 05-08 was much more practical, i wish they hadnt changed it. I would be curious to see if anyone switches an 09 for a previous year backseat set up. Im getting sick of the way the sub looks especially with its less than desired performance.

This is giving me a hard time. I've been trying for an hour to wedge a towel covered screwdriver at the top of the sub cover and use leverage to get it off. There seems to be a pivit point at the middle of the cover. I can get the bottom or top give a little but not at the middle. This is a serious PIA!

...I wonder if the plastic "filler" panel that is on the non-factory SW trucks can go in instead of the piece with the cut outs for the bolts & wiring harness? Might be worth a trip to the parts dept. to find out.

Wow, I think that's a good call :). They should be able to pull of every piece of any Toyota vehicle on their parts system. Whether or not you can order just that piece, or a larger section should be evident as well.

Like most I would have preferred the 05-08 set up to the 09 seat/subwoofer set up. But in living with it, with the seats down, you actually have a "flat storage area" from seat to seat, you just block the subwoofer.
