125 or 250

I'd vote 250 two stroke the nice thing about them is you can lug them when need be. 125's want rode hard all the time.

 

What bout a crf150? Would UT be better than a Yamaha 125

 

the CRF150R is comparable to a 2 stroke 80 in power so I don't think its a very good choice.

 

I agree with steve o 77, the CRF150R is comparable to an 80/85 two stroke power, so not really suitable for a 190 lb. rider.

Around here you can buy mid 2000's 250 two strokes in decent shape for $1500 -$2500. I don't know how the market is is NM though.

the market is about the same here. I see fairly clean 250 2 strokes on CL here for 1500 pretty often.

 

I vote 250 2 stroke. I have an 09 KTM 250xc and love it. Im around 190 with gear and it does great.

The Honda shop here has an '09 450 brand new for 5799 is that a good deal only thing its a 4 stroke

 

If that is the out the door price, then yeah it's a decent deal for an unused leftover '09 450. If it's plus tax, prep, and other fees tell them they can keep looking at it on their showroom floor.

I thought you wanted a two stroke? No big deal, I ride an '07 Honda 450X, but I miss my YZ250 for the lightness. May have to go back to mixing my gas soon.

I would get a 250 2stroke or a 450 4stroke, you get a 125 you will be hateing it in a couple of weeks

jk I love my KTM. The shock snapping had nothing to do with it being WP.

 

My first dirt was an 89 CR125. Lots of fun. I rode that for a year and a bit then sold it. Moved to street on an 07 GS500 (couldn't stand it) then a month later an 07 ZX6R. Crazy power, no issues though. Sold that.

Im looking at getting back into dirt. I am 190 with gear. I rode a bunch of 250s years ago (friends bikes) and found them less fun than my 125. They were so much work to control whereas the 125 you could just whip it around.

The 125s seem to have gotten physically smaller over the years though so I think a 125 might be too small for me. Im 5'8". I want a bike 2003 and up. Trail riding small jumping but def taking it within limits. Oh I have driven a CRF450 on ice and thats just too big a bike IMO.

What do you all think?

 

Bleah how about this. Find yourself an old (they all are) CR500 or KX500 or YZ490. Should be cheap and haul ass.

 

08 kawi 450 4 stroke...FTW....also have an rm 125....that's my weekend warrior...it does great in the desert if you know how to ride em...that and plus i don't think i can modify my 125 any further... :s good luck and be safe!
