part id issue please help i think it is a brake leak!!!!

if you are looking at your rear axel from the back of truck. look to the left there is some sort of brake line that starts near the bed of truck then goes down to the right side connecting to the axel with some sort of connector. at the top of this line there is a type of rubber boot and this has some kind of oil on it ... what is this ? sorry if discription is horrible

no i am talking about that metal line that goes over the pumpkin and connects to the right side of the axle

 

it is small and skinny and connects on some kind of shaft . i need to know what that box is that it is coming out of.

 

ok i have found the part. i belive it is the rear brake valve assmbly. what exactly does this do. i still have good feel in the brakes but the is some fluid around this assembly is this somthing to seriously worry about.?

 

Rear load proportioning valve you mean? It keeps the rear wheels from locking up.

If it's that thing to the right of the pumpkin that looks like a brass washer with a post coming out of it it's the Brake Proportioning Valve. It regulates rear brake pressure depending on the load placed in the bed.

it is the proportioning assembly. is this a major problem?

 

Find out where it's leaking from. Get some brake clean spray and a rag and clean all of the leaks up. Then go pump the brakes and see where it comes from. Might just be something loose and all ya gotta do is tighten it. And yes, if you have a leak in your brakes, it's always serious. That's how you stop when you're going 80.

It is serious, get it addresed...you what the purpose of that system is right...to stop...you can finish that thought. Keep an eye on your brake fluid reservoir if it gets too low your going to have some other issues...actually if you have a leak you might need to bleed your system anyways. Have you done a hydraulic purge/bleed before?

 

if that is a siple bleeding the brakes then yes. and my fluid level is fine and so is the feel of my brakes. is there a certian spot where it would be leaking cause i cant nail where in the assembly it is exactly or could it just be a loose fitting?

I think he said it's leaking over towards the left... The assembly on the right doesn't have any fluid in it I don't think... It's just a mechanical arm that serves as the "sensor". The actual valve is over on the left.

why would that rubber boot have brake fluid in it?
