ANOTHER deckplate mod question

Yea I no...just 1 more question! But I'm really thankin about doin it this weekend. Well the best instructions I found said to do a 3-5 inch plate. Well what about usin two 3" deckplates?? The air box is roughly 5"tall X 9"wide so o no itll fit. But has any1 done it and is it a good or bad idea??? Help!

I actually sized a 5" and a 4" on my truck and the 5 overlapped the outer edges of the box for me. I went with the 4". You really won't tell much of a difference between the 4 and 5 from what I've read around, but I wouldn't do anything crazy that couldn't be reversed. It'll be hard to convince anyone that the big gapping hole in the side of your air box magically transforms a 1st gen into a race car come sale time.

 

U might be right about the overlapping. But my toyotas never gettin sold so no worries there! but what would u say about two 4" holes? Or 2 3" holes? I mean. Wouldn't u thank it would be even better? Or is it just not worth doin?

 

that's the entire reason you use a deckplate, so you can close the hole later if needed.

I imagine that your ecm/maf is only going to allow for so much airflow. Your FI is not going to keep spraying fuel according to how much air is induced.
It's not like your running a 429 cj motor and an 850 cfm predator carb. Be realistic.

why do you keep thankin? im thinking its a georgia thing? i would just stick with a 4" plate and call it good you wont need anything more than that

 

What he said. I did mine in an hour but don't think it's going to snap you back in your seat......cause it isn't.

 

i believe chris ran some tests and found it provided the best gains over a cai but its still very minimal and i wanted to do it cause i was bored and love working on my truck

 

Same here. And yea its jus a GA thang but I jus figured it would help my truck pull my 33s a little better like goin up hill and stuff. Yesterday I taped off the silencers on the intake and it suprised me ALOT how much better throttle response just doin that gave it!

 

i didnt notice anything with mine. maybe its a placebo effect?

Am I wrong or ain't just leaving the top of your airbox open kinda similar to deckplate mod?? You can open and close when you want and it'll give u more air??
