GOOD DEAL OR??

Hi all, I have a few questions for ya!!

I came across a sharp looking truck the other day and I was wondering if this was a descent deal or not? Here is the link to the truck:

Also!! I have the identical truck that I would be trading in on this one with 157,000mi. on it. The only diference is that mine is a 2002 taco, manual tranny 4x4, silver, ext. cab, TRD without the towing package on mine. Also what do you all think I could expect out of mine on a trade in on this 1. I think KBB said the trade in value for mine with that kinda mileage is close to $5,000.00 in fair condition. Does that sound about right?

But what I was wondering is I dont know if my truck has the 4 wheel abs on it. It says that the 2003 does have the 4wheel abs on it. I looked in the manual and I could not find where it stated that my model actually had it. I dont think it does because when I drive it in the snow and i slide I dont feel the brake pedal pulsating & pushing back at my foot so im guessing it doesnt.

Does anyone out there know what the difference between a 2002 and a 2003 as far as brakes goes? Or any differences in anything on the 2 vehicles??

Also if it does have the 4 wheel ABS is there any issues with the abs working properly for that year?? I know some of the 4 runners in the past people were complaining about them really being unsafe and there were a lot of folks out there that were diabling their abs on em!!

Not a dime over $12,500 for an Ext. cab SR5. Even with 'only' 63k miles.

So it sounds like you want to basically 'buy down' your mileage? You know your truck would be good well into the 250k miles right?

Save your cash and put it towards preventative maint.

 

IMO, just keep your truck you have now, and keep some money on hand to rebuild the motor at some point (300k+ miles). With these trucks, the only difference between one with 63,000 miles and one with 150,000 miles is the book value. And as far as I know, no first gens have ABS.

 

Plus 1! Im with him! I know what it's like to lust over something newer, but unless your truck has been severely abused, no need to buy something newer. You can use that extra money for lost of other things!

 

Very many of the 1st gens have ABS. I think it became standard in 02-ish???

 

Why do people want to trade in their trucks for something that's basically the same thing? Complete waste of money.

Trading in a vehicle is such a rip-off to begin with. The truck you want may have fewer miles, but you don't know the history on it.

Keep what you have and drive it until it dies, people.

IIRC, ABS was optional in 01-02, standard in 03-04.

The ABS controlling unit is located in the area just in front of the pass. side firewall under the hood. Gizmo with brake lines going into it. If there is a big open spot there, no ABS.

 

I just sold a truck like this to a dealer for $12,000. Only difference was I had 68K miles, and no shell. I needed a DC and picked up my 2005 up at another dealer for $17,000. I figured that the buy offer was a good deal since I thought that I could only get a max of $13,500, and the dealer where I bought the 2005 DC only offerered me $9,000 for the 2003.

I guess I underestimated the value of the 2003, as the dealer that I sold it to, put it up for $17,000 and sold it within 2 weeks. I guess this balances out somewhat, since I think the 2005 I got should probably sell for about $20,000.

Based on this, I would recommend the following:

1. Unless your 2002, is in rough shape, it is worth a lot more than $5,000, even with the miles
2. If mileage is the only issue, I would keep it, as I don't think there is a lot of value in trading the identical vehicle from one year to the next.

BTW my 2003 did have ABS, and I had no problems with it ever.

 

For 15k, I would move into a 2nd gen.

The one in the link is overpriced. I know a lot of people have paid good money for the '01-'04's, but its still too high.

That said... Why would you trade yours in (losing cash), and overpay for all of 87,000 miles? Is it worth the money for what would only be 5-7 years worth of miles? Heck, the money you would lose could buy a brand new motor, and then you'd start at 0 miles. Think of it that way

But if you do decide to do this, you'd get WAY more than $5,000 unless you beat yours all to shit.

 

Thank you all so much for the great advice. I agree with every one of you!! Mine i feel if I cleaned it up it would look excactly like that one. The only thing that I have ever done to it was replace the timing belt and the water pump and a tune up!! Oh and brakes. It has some whines and some noises but other than that it runs great!! I was just thinking of the mileage on mine and sooner or later im gonna have to put some more money into it! Which is expected! I think im just gonna keep mine til i get 200k on it and then look for something newer or heck I might just keep her til she is no longer running i dunno lol
