I recently noted a vibration in my truck that was very noticeable between 30-35 MPH when accelerating. Turned out it was a bad hanger bearing on the rear drive shaft. Also the rearmost ujoint, of the 3 ujoints on the rear drive shaft, looked bad. At the dealer $220.00 for the hanger bearing. Ujoint $75.00. I ordered 1 hanger bearing and 1 ujoint from the dealer. I looked on the internet and ordered 2x Spicer 5-213x ujoints for a total cost of $33.00.

Yesterday I replaced the 3 ujoints and the hanger bearing using my 12 ton press as I do not have a vice large enough to squeeze ujoint caps into the drive shaft. After the test drive the vibration was gone.

Something that I did not do prior to disassembling the dive shaft to replace the ujoints, was that I did not mark an X on the same side of each piece of the drive shaft to ensure the parts were put together with the same side of each part aligned as they were prior to disassembly.

My question is, does anybody think the drive shaft needs to be rebalanced? Personally I do not think that it does however I wanted to ask the hive. No, I did not remove the balancing weights off of the drive shaft.

In theory you should rebalance but if you dont have vibration I would leave it alone.
