Yeah i would get one 2x the vehicle weight. If your stuck in mud you have all the weight of the mud plus the truck trying to pull through.

Yes your truck may be in the weight limit but its not when your stuck. And plus what if you have to pull somebody out that weighs more. Atv is for atv I would get a truck winch and atleast go with 6k

Yea I wasn't sure if there was a rule of thumb for the weight or not. It makes sense with the added weight of being stuck. The prices were what attracted me in the first place.

yeah, i have a full sized ax in the truck all the time, but it's nothing to be carrying around on a hike. i have a machette and a an 8 inch fixed blade, but need something will a little more weight behind it. that looks like the winner.

that's a cool site. friend of mine who is actually a member on here too has a knife like this that i love. might have to get one. http://www.ltspecpro.com/products/142-recon-i-tanto-point-half-serrated.aspx

like everyone else said, an atv winch will isn't a good idea. two times the weight and up for heavy winching on a regular basis. 1.5 to 2 times is fine, just make sure to carry at least one pulley block for the heavy pulls. i'm going with a smittybuilt 8k winch. it'll be fine most of the time, but for hte real heavy stuff it can be doubled to 18k with the pulley. i'd look at a 6k winch for your truck.

Here's one that you may like:

    Superwinch 1585202 LP8500 Series Winch
    $358.82

And I'm not sure about mounting. The more I think about it, maybe I shouldn't mount it in the flat part of the brushguard. It's only attached to the frame on the bottom of it with two little brackets holding it through the lower grill...I wouldn't want the winch to bend the brushguard right off.

i'm going for synthetic line. the smitty build one has an external brake speciffically designed for to keep the drum cooler so you don't burn the synthetic line. jason's winch is designed the same way.

you may be able to reinforce the brush guard. maybe run some steel from the plate you'd mount it on, throught he bumper/grill, and bolt it to where a winch bumper would nurmally attach

that's a cool little truck! little high on price, but a fun project none the less.

If you do what I'm gonna do. Reciever style hitch up front same 2" in the back. You can mount the winch to a plate and then have wires pre-ran thru the truck so its plug and play. You can pull from the back or front. Thats what I might/thinking about doing but prolly just gonna mount it to the front tube :D

If you want a good knife check out Randal Knifes. They are expensive but they are the absolute best. You can find them at online stores for a inflated price or you can order the knife exactly as you want it and hop on the 5 year waiting list. I have one my father ordered a while ago for me and I'm about to jump on the list again.
