Is this item needed when installing the Dakar leaf pack. Thought I read that the axle gets moved forward with the Dakars. I don't want any rubbing.

I believe the Dakars do move the axle forward

Yep, some people leave them, others get the axle relocation plate. I did not like how far it moved my axle forward so I purchased this plate from Sky Mfg. (http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new/detaproduct.php?id=80). It has two holes, one to move it 3/4" and one to move it 1". I used the 3/4" side and everything has been fine. I have been running this setup for about two years with no issues.

    Thread revival.

Was wondering if this is limited to 1st gens...

Any 2nd gen guys need to relocate their axles when installing Dakars to mitigate rubbing with 33's, namely with 255/85/16?

Thanks. Looks like it did move it slightly forward, based on the 1st pic. Ive got the same wheel BS. Wondering if the extra .2" on my 255/85/16s is enough to cause some rub...

Ive got the axle relocation plates already, just thinking out loud if I'll actually need them when I do the install.

Placement in the wheel well won't tell you much since the wheel changes fore/ aft position based on the amount of compression. After the spring goes past parallel is when the wheel moves forward on compression. If those pics are of the wheel and bump in the same position that tire will touch the wheel well when the bump stop touches the frame. My 285/70r17 dont touch with the bump an inch from the frame either... yet when I held the bump to frame over an obstacle it caused my tire to touch the flare and wheel well liner and ripped them off with the continuous contact. Honestly 3/4" is too much spacing... .5" would be ideal but they only come in the 3/4 or 1 inch option unless you go custom.

After installing my Dakars with no AAL I mildly flexed out my rear end to where the stock bump stop was on the frame. No rubbing. I did not add the axle relocation plate. Ill be sure to update the post if anything changes once I actually put the truck through a thorough test next month.
