Billistein 5100 vs OME 90004 struts?

So.... long story short I wanted 5100 fronts but they were out of stock and i felt i needed struts for my long road trip with 1400lbs of motorcycles, luggage and people in the truck and I was told they'd be the closest thing. well the struts never came in time and i embarked on the trip without them hoping everything would be fine (it was, even without the front timbrens i got just in case as well). So now I have these 90004s sitting around in the box. They were a bit more expensive than the 5100s. It's too late to return them but im wondering, are they comparable to the 5100s? I never had the time to do the research since i felt i needed something right away. I ran a search on them here but didn't find anything.

So im wondering now, how do the 5100 struts compare to the 90004 struts?

i have the 5100's, but after driving for a while.....im not liking these struts as much as i thought i would. they a pretty progressive and get stiffer the more miles you put on them. and i have them coupled with the ome 881 coils. roads around here suck...and you can feel every imperfection in the road...especially potholes. i can side skirt the potholes and still you can tell when you are even close to them. the 5100's are a great shock...but i think the ome shocks will be a bit better.

 

Ive had my truck back for 6 days with the 5100-881 combo. At times i feel like its hard up front, other times its buttery. Then I drive my gfs 2005 dodge sx and take the same roads. Its WAY worse. Just a few impressions after a few days.

 

What does everyone figure is to blame for the harsh ride? the 5100s or the 881s?

 

im pretty sure its the 5100's stiffening up.

 

Beware of the ride for these struts (and rear shocks).
They are advertized as smooth; however they are very harsh and stiff.
Control over bumpy roads (in a turn) is substandard.
I think that a better application would be for off-road racing.

I think common sense would dictate the 5100 at 2.5 would ride like crap.

Is everyone less than happy riding these at 2.5?, 1.75?,.85"...or stock height?...

 

I'm interested in the answer here...What do the Bilsteins ride like @1.75?

My nitrocharger sports and 881's are pretty damn stiff bout rattles my teeth out lol. Drives smooth offroad with a truck full of people/camping gear though.
