Also, those with camper tops. Is it difficult to take on and off or is it pretty much 4 clamps and good to go? I am wondering if I do get one and may happen to need it off will that be an option for me? I don't want it to be too difficult or time consuming to take on and off or run the risk of leaks, etc..????

I could build one of the PVC racks that was posted earlier to rest the cap on when not in use.

It's just 4 clamps and good to go. But you will need an extra set of hands to help you get it on and off.

I put 4 Eye bolts through the rafters in my garage. I drilled all the way through and used a washer and bolt. Then I bought 2 16' X 3" wide ratchet straps to use. My process is as follows:

    1. Back truck into garage
    2. Unclamp the shell from the bed and disconnect brake light wires
    3. Get inside truck bed and lift the camper shell using my legs and my back against the ceiling and place a 2x4 wood block under each side to leave enough space to slide the strap under it.
    4. Run straps underneath shell and up to the otherside (essentially making a U).
    5. Ratchet shell up off the bed about 3-4". I have to shift the shell in the straps a little bit since it lifts on the side with the ratchet more than the other.
    6. Drive out from underneath the shell.

The whole process takes about 5-10 Minutes.

You can't open the tailgate with the window closed. My leer window overlaps about 1.5"

Tail gate lock wouldn't hurt....or an alarm switch (I has this) on the tail gate.

Most shells you can dang near just yank open....but not like you can't just break the window too

Mine would break for sure since I have the frameless window. If someone really wants to get in, they will. I don't usually keep anything valuable in there anyways. I have some lifejackets and a plastic bucket back there right now. When I'm towing my landscaping equipment, I will lock my backpack blower back there if I have to park somewhere. I try to avoid leaving my stuff unattended though when I have the landscape trailer hitched up.

Both if you can. I will go back through and look for the shell pics though. Which one did you go with?

It's a deterent I guess. The only time someone is going to jack the $300 worth of tools in there would be during the evening. Plus the windows are tinted so dark that the methhead would really have to be looking for something. The whole reason I got the shell was to have the ability to keep stuff back there, especially when I work out of town, then there's a ton of tools/analyzers back there.

I ended up picking up a used 100XR from a member on here. Traded him my access literider tonneau + $175. I would say I got a killer deal! :D It does have some cosmetic issues but I touched those up and they aren't really a big deal to me. Plus it was already painted silver. I added a thule roof rack to it with the Tracker system.

Here's what my "Hoist" setup looks like. It's not strapped up in this pic but you get the idea. The ratchet part of the strap hooks into the eye bolts on the other side. The straps go underneath the shell. Works well for $30 spent.

I found an ARE Z series for my long bed for 400.00. I just have to have it color matched. Anyone have good things to say about it?
