question on rooting droid 2

Hey all, I am about to root my Verizon Droid 2, I am going to be using this SuperOneClick program. Is there anything else I should know before I do this? Do I need to download any software that it needs to run off of once I do get it rooted? Never did this before and there is a crap load of different info out there that I am not sure which one to follow.

 

you don't need anything else...what are you planning on doing? rooting a phone is like getting admin privileges on a computer..doesn't do too much by itself, it just allows you to start doing custom things down the line

 

Not too sure what yet. First thing is to get rid of all the stupid apps that verizon has on there. The new Honeycomb software is out too so if I am feeling really daring, I will upgrade to that. My biggest issue is all the stupid glitches ex. constantly freezing up, randomly restarting, etc. will rooting get rid of those issues (given I install a different software)?

 

I don't have a droid 2, but for all the questions that i have ever had on my evo, i go to androidforums.com. There's a ton of very knowledgeable people over there that can help you out with any problems or questions you have. Its also a great place to get ideas on different roms and themes to put on your phone.

 

rooting in and of itself will do jack to help with phone issues. it will allow you to download apps to get rid of the shit companies put on it (i use "root uninstaller" from the market) and will allow you to flash to custom software. getting rid of all that junk will help a million percent, and of course newer/cooler software will help too.

May or may not get rid of your problems. All of the roms have bugs, just depends on which ones you can live with. Remember if you want to overclock you need a rom that allows it. You cant just root and overclock without having an overclock capable rom.

Good luck, if you get stuck the guys on droid forums are great, and if you catch em at the right time of day the will stick with you till you get the problem solved.

 

It requires you to buy a few apps from the app store... I think I spent a total of like $3-$4. I did it with my Droid X. All I've done so far is "freeze" all of the bloatware and overclocked.

These guys rock, and are pretty quick to offer help; especially those on DroidForums.net.

 

Rooting the phone removes all the locks. It allows you to update to what ever version programmers offer (most are free), it allows you to install custom Roms and kernels which provide better efficiency in various ways.
For my Samsung Fascinate, it had the dreaded lag from Verizon. I rooted with the latest recovery, which included the lag fix kernel, then installed the latest ROM developed. From there I could choose from a handful of different themes.

ROMS serve several purposes. 1) to fix known problems. 2) to ease use. 3) make more efficient.

 

I ran the Honeycomb on my Fascinate for several days and liked it. But I then installed a theme that I didn't care for and the only way to remove the theme is to delete the ROM. I now have a hybrid Honeycomb/Gingerbread that I really like; so much so that I have not installed a theme.

Really? I'd say you went the wrong way then. Androidforums.net offered their time (after I did a bit of research) and showed me how to root and install the latest Rom freely. I paid nothing for this upgrade. Some developers accept donations, but everything is offered free.
Oh, the ROMS I installed are de-bloated, meaning NO Verizon crap.

I'm willing to bet many here are not as wise or knowledgeable as you are and thought re-stating things a bit differently would open some understanding. If this offended you, I'm sorry.

 

Hmm I used the same site and I'm assuming the same guide... Most of them were by choice (Overclocking and the bloat freezing one) but I had to buy the bootstrapper app.
