Big difference in price and type (30% more for the 2WD, but less miles). Really, only you can make the call since they are different. You'll get people pushing you to get the 4x4 because they would like to have one - only you know if it's worth it to get a 4x4.

Exactly I think that's my biggest question.

That pre-runner is clean! I'd want to see pics of the inside of the 4x4 and the engine bay.

Just a little .02, but I got a prerunner and have loved every minute of it. I can be just as capable offroad as if I had a 4x4. But I don't go offroad much, more time spent on pavement. Like woody said, only you will know if the 4x4 is worth it for you. I like the idea of fewer miles, just my opinion.

I would get the 4x4, only because 30k miles difference on a Tacoma is meaningless when you can probably put as many miles as you please on it as long as you own it while saving almost $3000 in the process.

In addition, one a 2wd, insurance should be less, maintenance should be less, gas mileage should be better...

if u dont really need 4x4 get the 2wd u'll get better gas mileage... but i'd say keep lookin, i bought my prerunner with 53k miles for $13,500. I'll bet u could find one with less miles for around the same price

Thanks a lot guys. I have driven the 4x4 and its just as clean. Is there a big difference between getting a 02 and.a.04?

Just the knowledge that your truck is only 7 years old. No difference in the actual trucks themselves. I think the gas mileage penalty is so small that for me at least it would be outweighed handily by the knowledge that I've got 4x4 if I need it.

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!
My vote is 4x4 but that MY choice. To go 2x4 or 4x4 is a big decision.

unless you plan on doing some serious off road driving go for the 2002 4x4... but in all seriousness the 2004 is a better buy, i was in the market for a 2004 model tacoma and prices are right in there i ended up buying a 2005 just last week for 16,000. but back to the question, the 2004 looks just as nice its a trd off road and has 30,000 freaking miles less and its 2 yrs newer... the extra 3 grand are well worth it, dont go for the 2002 you will be at the 200k+ mile in no time and the value of the truck will be less... just my 2 cents

Dang you got a steal. Over here that would routinely be 16k+. I saw one that had about that same mileage but was a 4x4, he wanted 21,000. I think if I can get the prerunner down below 12,500 Ill be getting a good deal. I may offer the guy with the 4x4 9,500 and see what he says.
