I'm new to TW and I'm learning a lot from the wealth of knowledge here, but I have a few questions I haven't found answers for yet.

-I just bought an 02 Double Cab Prerunner with 130K for $8500. It was flat towed and had a modified driveshaft with a disconnect (back to factory now), but I'm curious to know if the odometer was turning while it was being towed with this setup. The truck is in beautiful shape, and I can't imagine that it was driven for 130K judging by the condition of the interior. Shifting from park to reverse and reverse to drive is also not as smooth as I would expect, but not bad either.

-I am getting a weird squeaking noise from the air conditioner. Any ideas on what is causing this?

-When I back up with the wheel turned, I get a popping sound from the front. Doesn't happen every time, probably 80%.

    Thanks in advance!

    Sign Man,

Does the A/C squeak when you first turn it on or when you turn the wheel at an extreme angle for an extended period of time? If it meets either of the aforementioned criteria then it could simply be an overly tight or loose A/C belt. This happened on a few of my Toyotas and you simply have to readjust the problematic belt in order to rectify the noise.

As for the popping sound, could there be something that is rubbing against your wheel? Perhaps a loose undertray or sway bar?

The squeaking is actually coming from the inside. It sounds like there's a mouse in my dash.

I'm not sure, but the popping noise could be your CV joint going bad.

Hmm, if the squeaking sound is originating from inside the dashboard then it may be possible that one of the vents either has an obstruction inside of that causes this sound or perhaps the vent cover is loose and the A/C's airflow causes it to squeak. This was the case on my mom's corolla and I simply had to 'pop' the vent cover back into its proper place in order to rectify the situation.

..Another possibility is that Mickey has decided to take up residence in your vents because his previous home faced foreclosure :p

is the noise coming from the passenger floorboard area? if it is its more than likely noise from your blower motor. Mine also makes a little noise.

+1....I got a small piece of paper sucked up into the intake from under the dash and it flapped like a playing card stuck in the spokes of a bike when we were kids. Finally went in and took it out, now its perfectly quiet again.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll check the blower out.

Any ideas on the hard shifting?

i think that only happens on 4wds, but i do recall a similar sounds sometimes in my prerunner, it seemed like it was something with the coils somehow but that was only after a spacer lift and he's got no lift. .

Figured out the AC noise is the blower fan, and found a nice write up to hopefully fix it.

Any thoughts about the hard shifting? And whether or not the odo turns while being flat towed?

Nice ass truck. If the driveshaft was disconnected and back wheels were on the ground being towed, I'd say no because the speedo/odometer thing is in the tranny.

    Thanks man!

That's what I was thinking, but it's in such good shape I figured there's no way it's been driven 130K. The damn steering wheel still has the texture on it!

I've got a slight squeak also from the dash....It does not happen all the time, usually just on rough roads....since it only happens every once in a while I don't really worry about it...

This one doesn't happen all the time either, but when it does, it's loud and obnoxious. I go out of town for work once a week or so, and if it happens then I'll be stuck with it for a couple hours.
