if it is anything like the jetboil (it appears to be the same concept), it will be pretty nice. kind of limits you to what you can make unless you buy a stabilizer and a few other things to cook something like soups in.
Yes it sure does. Having to deal with mud and crap like that sucks too. I do 90% of my backpacking in the winter when the ground is frozen. It doesn't snow very much where I go so that helps too. Oh well! can't do much about it. :(
hell yeah! I want to try to do part of the AT this summer but not sure when I will get the chance. You know which loop you are doing yet?

I know this isn't much of a camping question but anyone know of any good deals on a dry suite and discounted rescue pfd? I just go back from a 3 day rafting trip got effed on the last day and need some new gear. We ran the same lines for 3 days and the last run of the trip we flipped the boat on a gnarly rapid all of us were under the boat. Got out cought the boat got a paddle stuck through the back of my pfd about drown me because I could not stay on my back. Got beat around on some rocks before I could get the paddle out get back to the boat and help get it out of the river before we swam the next set of rapids.

Yeah I'm upgrading to a dry suite. I tore my wet suite up and our water is so cold here it is worth it to me.

Check out these sites. This is the best I could do. Everything seems to be almost 1k or more. I would use Grainger for the pfd.

Yeah 1k is about the going rate but its worth It. I had my wet suite and splash gear on and I was miserable with the long swim we took where as the people in dry suits were better off.

dry suits are definitely better. I wear a wet suit usually when I am scuba diving and as soon as I am out of the water, that thing is off of me asap.

Yeah I have always worn just a wet suite and splash gear but after this swim things should prolly change. I think I should prolly buy a new helmet too I took a rock head on pretty good. My helmet still looks ok but its a few years old we will see how much I end up spending.

went on my first camping trip when i was 13. me an a friend were in the catskill mounts. of New York. we got to the site and set up, got our fire started and gathered wood. that evening while we were sittin by the fire, a bear runs about 150 feet from us. we were in shock and just sat there. that night it poured rain and the tent leaked. i still love camping and go every chance i get.

thats some pretty wicked stuff! I am about to go rafting for my first time this summer.
One of the funnest things about camping is having stuff happen and having to figure out a way to fix the problem with limited supplies. It is more of the mind exercise that I enjoy. Ive woke up to tent full of water quite a few times.

HAAA!! I woke up from a Lunestra haze along the shores of Tasmania to heavy winds and rain and had to lash my tent from the inside (has hooks on the inside - I love my tent!) and ran outside to throw a basic tarp over my rainfly (which I didn't re-waterproof ahead of time).
Worked awesome, though! Still had small pools of water along the edges of the tent, but whatever. And here's my plug for the iPhone app "Knot Guide"... :D

hell yeah! I was with a buddy who was sleeping in his hammock while I was in the tent. Nasty 60+mph winds came along. The hammock with him in it was almost about a foot to the side of where it was supposed to be. He was stupid and didn't put a rain fly over the hammock. It basically became a huge sail.

    the Knot Guide is awesome.
