Anyone seen anything like this before?

Came with my truck when I bought it, Interested in what it is/if it is the reason behind why the brakes on my truck feel so awkward, all the brake lines coming from the master cylinder are stretched out because of that big clunker.

 

Are there any lines running out of that to the power steering?
My guess is hydro booster, or adapter to use a different master cylinder. Hmmm...

 

no it looks like someone may have spliced the wires connecting to it though other than that it looks stock

 

That thing is not stock but it is goofy, Have you called captain Kirk and asked if he's missing any space ship parts, or maybe Doc Brown????? Have you drove that truck over 88 MPH cuz if not you should think twice before standing on the pedal!

 

Hahaha, I have not driven past 88 yet nor have I contacted either of your friends. But im taking my truck to the dealer tomorrow to figure it out

 

From what I could find on google/bing it's similar to a brake booster. This isn't the same thing that you have but looks pretty damn close.

Sort of pointless since you already have a brake booster. I'm guessing you are correct as this is why your brakes feel weird. Keep us updated as to what the dealer says when you take it in.

Does it just allow for a greater volume of vaccuum? I would figure a double diaphram booster would be more efficient, but I guess it makes sense as an add-on, though.

 

Found out what it is, it is used for when you tow a truck or car behind a motor home. Assists in brake usage of the truck when braking.

 

How does it work? The engine has to be running to have vaccuum. Does that plug on top connect to a vaccuum pump?

 

No Idea actually. i think it has some sort of hose that may have connected to it.

Haha what a load of crap... guaranteed this is what's making your brakes feel weird. Too bad nobody told them that air will compress, so when disconnected it will definitely act as a pushrod... a pushrod made of SPONGES.
