Wanting To Re-Gear

Been wanting to re-gear for quite some time now finally got some $$$ saved up, whats the best gear ration for 35s on a 00 Prerunner id say moderate highway use maybe, 4.88's ?? Thanks.

 

what engine do you have?

reason I ask is because some 1st 4 cylinders come with 4.56 on the stock tires so if yours is similar maybe even the 5.19's

4.88 sounds pretty good to me with the 35's and the V6. If you wheel a lot and the highway drivings low id go 5.19 but if your doing not so much off-road and more city/freeway 4.88

i have a 4.0 v6 with 33s and 4.88s it revs a bit but my buddy has the same with 35s and its perfect, ill also be getting 35s soon so i just decided to gear a bit higher keeping that in mind

gotchya. I'm getting rid of my 4.88's on Thursday. It's torture on the freeway. Back to sluggish 4.10's.

 

why man? why not go with some 4.56s then? or just get bigger tires

how would one go about doing this is it easy to do on your own or is it something that you should just bite the bullet and pay to get done? what kind of price range for the gears and wheres the best to buy. been thinking of doing this for a bit now just not sure though thanks!

 

Dude I commute from Ft. Irwin, CA to Gilbert, AZ (7 hour drive). Don't want to do the bigger tire things just yet. I can still get busy in the desert with 4.10's.

 

I bit the bullet and had someone else do it. It's not THAT hard, just more a test of patients. Glad now I bit the bullet cause the place put the wrong gears in, and I'm not getting charged to have anything swapped back to normal, and I can spend time doing other things with my free time.

 

Whats the best kind of gears to order ??

 

I got nitro gears in mine. 4.88 as well. I ordered a built diff from eastcoastgearsupply and did the swap my self, it came with a 5 year warranty. Good guys to deal with. Chase knows his gears.
