Mine is the same as yours, as was my 2005... Never got 20+ mpg. 19. something was the top, and that was rare... 18. something more common if highway only. Daily driving (city/hwy. combined) always 16. something on my 2005 and 2010. Getting 17.0 yesterday was 'special' :D

After 25 tanks, I am only getting 16.4 miles per gallon. My best ever was 18.9 miles per gallon driving from Bristol, TN to Northern Virginia. It was at night, no AC and setting the cruise control to 70 miles per hour....

I get 20-21 on the highway, but I live on the Eastern Shore of MD where there are no hills hardly anywhere. aFe Pro Dry air filter bumped my mpg up a little too...

New to this forum but may take the time to look into the "Fuelly" you mentioned a few post back. Thanks for the feedback.

I just got my first 19.9 for mostly city. I have a K&N filter, but noticed a +1 mpg by changing to synthetic.

I have a 06 D-cab 4L V-6, automatic. I have seen numbers as high as 24 and as low as 16 on the highway. A couple of suggestions.
    1) Switch to a full synthetic motor oil. Less resistance in the motor means less fuel to turn it. I run NOTHING but Mobile 1.
    2) Run the tires as high as you dare, 35-40 PSI. The harder the tire, the less rolling resistance.
    3) SLOW DOWN!!! If you want mileage, plan on running 60-65 MPH.
    4) Turn off the cruise. Your (auto) tranny will shift down on hills, sometimes 2 or 3 gears. 4,000 RPMs are not where you will get good mileage. Instead, hold your foot in one position on the throttle, swing over into the right lane, and let the speed bleed off. Try and keep the engine in a higher gear as long as possible.
    5) Take everything you can out/off the truck. The more weight, the lower the fuel economy.
    Hope this helps.
I got 24.5 between southern New Mexico and Salt Lake City, but most of it was at altitude (above 3,500 ft) and it took me a little longer. I did save quite a bit in gas.

Getting 20+ is easy. I did it really without trying just keep it under 2000 rpm, take off easy and try to time traffic lights

I get that pretty much all the time with my double cab OR. I don't care for the stock tires but can't justify getting rid of them with good tread left. I want new ones before the snow flies again in the fall. I run my tires about about 37/39 99% of the time. I lower them when on dirt roads.

None YET! (It's only got 50 miles on it.)
I am about to install a topper. I have kept track of the mileage and hope the topper will help with the Aero enough to offset the added weight. We will see.

I do 75-80mph with traffic on the interstate going to work, 4 days a week. Coming home I run about 65 on the interstate.

Whenever I can I coast in neutral down hills, this drops the rpm down below 1000.

Same variables from above for both Tacomas:

My 2011 DC 4.0 the best I have gotten in it's 4300 miles is 17.5. No toneau cover. Same wheels from my 05; 20". More cautous how I start off.

My 05 DC 4.0 the best I got was 20.8. And I wasn't cautous how I drove. I did have a fiberglass toneau. I did remove the secondary air filter after the warranty expired.

Note: Before ethanol was added to the gas, I did get 22-23mpg on my 05 Tacoma.

7 of 29 fillups so far have exceeded 20mpg. Highest is 21.15.

Overall average so far is just less than 18, but that includes about 30% use while towing a trailer (12-15mpg).

Running the AC will knock you down at least 1 mpg. Over 65 mph will really kill your mileage.

I monitor my mpg while driving with my ScanGage, and track it at every fillup with the "My Cars" app for android.

I had a guy ask me about mileage in my truck versus his 4 runner. He has a 2000 four runner with th 3.4, and have the 06 Taco with the 4.0. Both trucks have automatic transmissions, and both have V-6 engines, but my mileage is better than his because he has the 4 spd auto, I have the 5 spd. It makes a difference.
