Wheel Spacer Question..

My x-runner wheels hit my tie rods when I do a full left/right turn. I just added 1/4'' (6.35mm) spacers and it helped but at fast speeds while turning they scrape back of the wheel just a bit. I was wondering, would going the next size up, which is 5/16'' (8mm) spacers, would I have to get extended studs or would this be safe with the OEM studs i have now? Btw, I have a 05 tacoma 2wd access cab. Thanks!

I don't get it, how will i have 1/16'' less if im gonna lose 5/16'' of thread when I throw on a 5/16'' spacer?

You will only be losing 1/16 inch of thread engagement compared to what you have now with your quarter inch spacer. 1/4=4/16 you are proposing to go from 4/16 to 5/16 shouldn't be a problem. Get extended lug nuts that have a taper that goes further into the wheel hole for more thread engagement if you're worried.

IMHO you may want to think about running the ARP studs through the spacer, and use the spacer studs w/ extended thread lugs for the wheels. Just my extra .02

 

that thread is awesome! just what I'm looking for, just a lil more room for the 8mm spacer.. just to be safe I can go with a 10mm spacer with these. the 02-03 corolla/matrix studs will do the job and plus I can keep my stock x-runner lug nuts. Really appreciate the help!

 

ok so I purchased the extended studs from the 02-03 matrix/corolla, now my question is what's the biggest spacer I can go without running into problems? I think running 1/2'' spacer would help the clearance issue but now I wanna make my front wheels flushed as much as possible since I have some camber now from lowering. The newer studs are 1/2'' longer. Oh and I'm really new to spacers but do I have to get the proper hubcentric rings? is that another piece to buy. and how about quality built, I've seen some billet ones for sale is that the best ones out?
